And all you had to do was read the first sentence.

"Microsoft’s senior vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business Yusuf Mehdi has stated that given the broad multimedia focus of Xbox One, there’s no reason why it can’t shift between 400 million and 1 billion consoles in its lifetime."

except that's not what he said

it helps to actually read things for yourself

"'We think you can go broader than a game console, that’s our aim, and you can go from 400 million to potentially upwards of a billion units. That’s how we’re thinking of the Xbox opportunity as we go forward.'"

Yep, proves you wrong

I'd like to have what you're smoking, because it's definitely a lot stronger than what the clowns at MS who thought the Xbone would sell over 1 billion units were smoking.

Read it again. He's saying that he thinks the Xbone can sell over 1 billion units.

That isn't a direct quote. If you can find a direct quote stipulating that, then that's fine. I have yet to find one.

The direct quote reads as a generalization of the market.

It's in quotes in the article, meaning they are verbatim from MS.

That's the exact line you quoted. I already addressed the actual quote. For fucks sake, keep track of the conversation.

He's generalizing the sales of the market... Hence the quoted 30% per generation, and going above the 300 million number of the previous generation. To dumb it down for you, all consoles combined (360/PS3/Wii) sold in the 300 million range. You clearly have a problem with context. He then states industry experts are expecting 400 million this generation, but states that if you go wider by appeal (multimedia) the potential is there for a 1 billion plus generation.

Fucking... Learn... To... Read...

Again, read the fucking quote.

Just because the PS4 is a huge success for Sony does not mean the Xbone is a huge failure for Microsoft. Just keep the games coming

You clearly struggle with context. He's not expecting the console to sell over a billion. He's thinking of the wider appeal that the multimedia market offers with regards to the sales of the console... He sees a larger potential market. This is why you can't take quotes out of their context, which is wht you are consistently doing in order to feign making a point.

The struggle is real for you, eh?

WOW...

Okay, let's break this down.

The MS rep said that they predict 400 million total units this gen for just game consoles.

As Microsoft thought SONY was dead, Microsoft expected to capture the entire 400 million console market. They then overpredicted the non-console market and expected to sell an extra 600 million. That's what the quote is implying.

At this point, the debate is over. You've resorted to assuming what you think is an accurate portrayal. At no point would a company assume that their major competition, would have zero foothold going into a new generation. You are literally a moron.

Xbox One is $50 cheaper and about 50 spots behind the PS4 on Amazon. Xbox is a joke.

And the U.S. is their strongest market. It is becoming a blowout of epic proportions. PS1 era style domination.

First , Xbox is not that much of a big part of Microsoft to make them panick . Microsoft is making much more money from it's other part . also Xbox is making profit and seems like that's all MS cares about .
I agree with guys said above , Microsft should be afraid of Apple and Google .

I think Microsoft must REALLY invest in Mobile and Tablet market . the future is in their hands . sure , Microsoft has the majority of PC and lap top OS market , but I think there will be a Time that Tablet's will take over lap tops and Computers .
I have Windows Phone , and while the UI is really cool and Performance is really well , but the Store and the app variety is still lacking . if MS worked harder on the app store and Windows phone had at least 50% of the apps that are available on Android , I think WP could have a good percentage of the market.

with the rumors of PS4.5 it seems they're both panicking.

I don't think it's a coincidence why Nintendo is so Hush Hush over the NX and why these "Upgraded Consoles" start showing up at the same time.

IGN understood the quote... Why can't you?

------

Also, did you forget Nintendo in your acid-induced hilarity? They only cornered the majority of last-gen's market.

Microsoft thought they were going to gobble up the entire industry. 1 billion sales expectation is obvious. You're just in denial at this point.

and that's why MS thought they could change the industry on their own with their DRM, well SONY promptly knocked them the **** out.

Now SONY is controlling NPD's and NA.

MS are still selling units, I really don't think they are that worried about what internet fanboys say.

Their sold-through units are closer to the original Xbox than the 360 at this point.

Proof?

dat amazon bro

Well, they are into year 3 and it has not shown any indication of breaking 20M sold-through.

They are in serious panic since X1 was in pre-order status. Therefore the reverse of all of their ridiculous policies , Kinect Removal , constantly price cuts over and over , free games since its first year , exclusives find their way on PC etc and last but not least ... they dont even dare to give exact worldwide sales numbers to public.

We dont need to be geniuses or economists to understand that , its common sense.

Did you see 2013 E3? MS almost did, but they got knocked the **** out trying to change the gaming industry on their own.

For the record, the burden of proof is on the lems to prove that MS would not be in panic mode. Unfortunately for them, Microsoft has gone dark on unit sales when it comes to the XBone. That only serves as evidence of desperation. Not the other way around.

This is some funny shit. You guys are concerned with what MS spends in R&D and other areas but their stock went from 40s to 55 in contrast to a market that took hits due to Chinas taking a big hit. Yeah they're probably panicking without the weight of being in billions of debt. You wanna talk "panic" and financials then let's get real about these companies. Otherwise stick to gaming.

Some of you people prove time and time again that you're clueless. All pushing MS out of the console market would do is just make them more FOCUSED on the front against Apple and Google(their REAL war).

LMAO at the thought of small ass Sony and Nintendo being MS major competition or making the panic. Like I said before if Google or some other major company were to make an alternative OS that kicks the shit out of Windows and steals the BILLIONS of userbase Windows has, THEN we will see MS not only panicking but having a heart attack. The console market is just something MS wanted to expand in for the extra money.

Yes the sales of the Xbox One compared to PS4 is "embarrassing", but making the panic???? Get real...
