Like it or not, the 360 is the weakest of the bunch. The PS3 has blu-ray which can pack more on the disc although you do have to install everything and the PC has Digital Distrubtion. The 360 is stuck with the DVD. I know R* will perform some sort of wizardery but should be really have to?

Lol, lemmings are gonna be butthurt about this and they are having doubts whether if they can enjoy GTA 5 on their platform as much as others.

When I watched the new trailer, I was thinking "How on earth can the 360 handle all of this?".

You already know the answer. Multiple disks and probably an install.

Chances are the PS3 version is the one that'll have actual performance issues.

It will obviously come on multiple discs. If it's a problem, they will enforce a manditory install and doing so will allow seamless gameplay. It's really as simple as that. Otherwise on multiple discs, they could also have you swap after half the game, with the full map on both discs, but content (mainly voice recordings which eat up a lot of space) from earlier missions that don't need to be on the second disc leave space for newer missions.

There's not going to be any problem, but the real question is how will the ps3 handle the increase graphics, since it struggled to run GTA4 with textures running close to 360 quality (obviously far behind pc quality). I just don't htink the ps3 graphics card is capable of matching the 360 on this front. Time will tell.

I'm sure they'll go with a second disc and an install of some sort.

It remains to be seen whether that install will be mandatory or not (and seeing as I install big games like this onto the hard drive anyway, I couldn't care less either way).

But if the game launches day and date on the PC, I'll probably get that version anyway, given how much better the PC version of GTA IV (and every multiplat ever) is than the console versions.

It's silly to pre-order really. I mean what is the point? It's better to wait until we get closer to the release date, so more information will circulate the web about which version is superior and such.

If the past is any indication, the 360 version will be technically superior, despite the possibility (more like inevitability) of having multiple discs.

Personally, I'm not worried.

It'll probably (hopefully) be structured like RAGE/Halo 4, with a single install and then running entirely off one disc.

It will likely have 5 fps better framerate and come on two discs with a swap halfway through the story missions. The PS3 version will have worse textures, the above mentioned framerate difference and a mandatory install that lasts 10+ minutes thanks to the slow read speed of the Blu-ray drive.

Same way it handled Skyrim, GTA4, Saints Row 3, Sleeping Dogs etc etc etc. They'll probably just put all the multiplayer on a separate disk as well.

That has nothing to do with how much space a disc has to hold data. It has to do with speeding up load times during the game.

Disc space =/= power.

360 is actually more capable than PS3, especially for hardware demanding open games. That said, and considering DVD limited disc space, there will probably be a mandatory install, or maybe SP in one disc and MP in another.

True. devs can solve DVD limited space with multipla discs. There's nothing they can do about PS3's lack of usable memory.

At the end, i wouldn't be surprised if 360 version ran and looked slightly better.

Wait, I can remember that you're the same guy who said that both consoles are equal in hardware.

If the 360 is really more "capable" then explain why there are no 360 exclusives that looks as good as Killzone 3, Uncharted 3 and God of War 3.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The trailer is likely to be made up of bullshots. Console versions will come with full of jaggies, low-res graphics and <28fps.

So, will easilly handle it

They do have similar hardware. 360's less complicated design, alow devs to reach good results easier.

Also nice opinion on exclusives. Gears 3, Horizon and Halo 4 look at least as good as those.

i think you'll probably find that both consoles RAM limitations are at least as much of a problem especially for an open world game, whats skyrim? 3.8gb for the 360 full install, RDR is only like 6-7gb. Yeah they could put 20-30GB worth of high res textures, sounds, models and animations onto a Bluray, but if you're flying a helicopter or jet around in the game how is it going to cram all of that data into less than 500MB of RAM? :? Both consoles already struggle with games like GTA4 and if anything the PS3 struggles even more because of its overly rigid RAM management.

La Noire is the only open world game recently which has required more than one disc and thats only because they decided to have a ridiculous detail and variety in the facial animations which worked with the consoles limited RAM and multiple discs because it doesn't have to load a lot of them at the same time. They could do exactly the same thing with GTA5 if necessary.

There are a huge number of ways to do it if you can't fit it onto 1 disc. Where as if you can't fit all the data at a certain point in the game into RAM, the only option is to delete things.

the data is still on 2 separate places so it'll be the same as having multiple discs so some sacrifices on its design will have to be made one way or the other. It works on PC because you install the entire game on the HDD but the Xbox has proprietary HDD and many consoles without an HDD at all.

PS3 games only do some catching from the HDD, devs doesn't install cities and gameplay on the HDD to speed up the game. Why? Because it doesn't works like that. All the core of the game needs to be in one place. Example of how wrong you are would be Rage.

Rage can be installed on the HDD of the Xbox but its design is still the same as a game on multiple discs.

open world on multiple discs... How does that design work?

Gue1

Mandatory installation for the second disc?

the data is still on 2 separate places so it'll be the same as having multiple discs so some sacrifices on its design will have to be made one way or the other.

Halo 4 has two discs and you only play on one. Skyrim and Just Cause 2 are two of the biggest open world games and they're on one disc on the 360.

Actually xbox 360 is the most powerfull console right now, it is definatly vastly more powerfull GPU wise than PS3 and more powerfull than the junk GPU in WiiU too

So, will easilly handle it

The question is how PS3 will handle it

MonsieurX

Wii U >PS360 Quit crying over it

From what i see in the actual games, WiiU graphics are pure crap

Halo 4 makes ZombiU seem like a PS1 game (and in many ways ZombiU has PS1 graphics, like in textures, shaders, polygon counts etc)

Generally WiiU seems way below xbox 360 graphics power

Those who don't have HDD will have to pass the game, or get a cheap USB drive (Halo 4 is another example). Like i said, there are many solutions for limited disc space, and 360 has yet to not be able to run a game this gen. I would be more concerned about PS3 version, if i were you :P

the differences between the two version will be completely unnoticeable due to how blurry and choppy they'll be. /thread

I'm getting the 360 version till i'm sure the PC version isn't a broken mess, like how GTA IV PC launched. Once the first patch or so is out i'll get the Pc version.
