Dsogaming reports :

Koch Media together with its publishing label Deep Silver announced today that it has acquired the Homefront brand and all coherent assets from Crytek. This includes Homefront: The Revolution which has been announced on 2nd June 2014.

More importantly, the development of this brand new Homefront game will be continued in newly founded, Nottingham-based Deep Silver Dambuster Studios.

Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said:

“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe. We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path we have been walking in the last years.”

In short, Crytek is falling apart. Or at least we can kiss goodbye to the Crytek we knew. The German studio revealed earlier this month that it has evolved from a developer to an Online-Publisher, and this move further strengthens that statement.

UPDATE :

Crytek has issued - via GamesIndustry.biz – an official statement about its internal restructure. As the German studio noted, Crytek UK is being closed and all of its members that worked on the upcoming Homefront game will be transferred to Koch Media’s newly founded Dambuster Studios.

Moreover, Crytek revealed that its Austin studio has been downsized to a minimum. Crytek Austin was developing the free-to-play game HUNT: Horrors of the Gilded Age. HUNT’s development will be transferred to Crytek Frankfurt, and Crytek Austin’s new role will be the maintenance of the CRYENGINE support team to assist North American licensees.

Crytek founder and CEO, Cevat Yerli, said:

“As we look to cement Crytek’s future, this strategic deal with Koch Media would allow us to continue with our ambitious goals to become an online publisher. With Warface, Arena of Fate and HUNT, we believe we have the perfect portfolio and teams to make that happen. We would like to thank all our staff – past and present – in both Nottingham and Austin for their contributions to the company, and we wish all the very best to anyone who may no longer be under the Crytek banner moving forward.”

Crytek’s studios in Budapest, Istanbul, Kiev and Sofia will continue to operate, however a closer collaboration between Crytek Shanghai and Crytek Seoul is under review.

In short, Crytek is closing and downsizes studios in order to avoid bankruptcy, and only time will tell whether it will be able to pull it off or not.

It will suck even more.

1. its generic military FPS. not old school badass FPS

2. Crytek is atleast worthy.

3. its primarily console shooter.

Good, now if only Valve acquires CryEngine. It's too good of a technology to be to go down with Crytek.

I've had the displeasure of playing the first one not too long ago. Talk about the most over-dramatic game in the history of games.

Bleh.

Why is the Homefront IP so coveted? Third time it's switched hands now. Did no one play the first game?

Hint: It sucked.

Also, RIP Crytek.

Wow, what on earth will Crytek develop now ?

More f2p or Ryse crap ?

@wis3boi said:

I was both sceptical and optimistic at the same time

-Crytek hasn't made anything amazing in the last years

+It was made by the people who did Timesplitters

-But they also made the awful Crysis 2&3 multiplayer

+They said they were going to bring gameplay close to crysis (which means open levels and ways to approach your objectives)

Most likely. The issue is that they figured it was better to sell off this almost complete game and fund whatever they have planned. If it's a F2P or Mobile game then they are going to have a bad time.

They should had stayed PC only. If they kept releasing games that pushed high end hardware they would be heralded as king of the pc, the millions upon millions of benchmark enthusiasts would had bought every game they released.

Koch have been pretty solid lately plus they are one of the few publishers still only charging $50 for PC games.

I'm fine with Crytek falling apart, they have been in a tailspin since Crysis 2 and their main Tech guy jumped ship for Id Software. The talented devs will be better off working for other companies.

Whatever happens to them I don't much care. They're notable, but hardly an elite developer at their peak. And their peak was over 1/2 a decade ago.

So...they turn down making Ryse 2 because they wanted to keep ownership of an IP nobody cares about, they close arguably their most prestigious studio, and they sell off their most notable in development (and presumably almost finished) game to focus on f2p stuff.

Sounds like good decision making to me.

Too bad for Crytek....they just make shitty games.

Crysis was the only decent one but it runs like shit even on HAL.

They did make Ryse look pretty good, but I hear the actual game sucks....which doesn't surprise me.

You should have made Timesplitters 4, Crytek; that game had more fan interest than any of the other games you chose to make instead. I really hope some good developer picks up the rights to Timesplitters!

Yep no Timesplitters 4 then. When Crytek first bought Free Radical and made it into Crytek UK I got really excited and thought they would release a new TS game and yet they never did. If Crytek isn't going to use that ip then sell the rights to another company that is way better then they are.

Well I guess it was inevitable with Ryse and Crysis 3...

But still it sucks for those losing their jobs or getting herded about. I really really hope the Timesplitters franchise is going to be bought and used soon.

Their 2 PC exclusives were great, and scored 9.0+ here.

After they started making games with console in mind, they got worse and worse as more console design was in mind in both sales and scores.........until they made a console exclusive which scored a 4.0 and completely bombed, Yeah...

There statement was interesting. Warface apparently has been a massive failure outside of Russia.
So they are banking on Arena of Fate (moba) and Hunt (left 4 dead)
