Resolution gate only exists on the more virginal message boards. It definitely didn't get a free pass for the RROD; if anything it's what killed off the 360's prospects early. It could have easily been the next PS2 had they not done such a horrible job on the hardware.

And the notion of them getting a free pass with the digital-only system is laughable; gaming 'journalism' exhibited one of the most absurd over-reactions the industry has ever seen.

So in conclusion, no they haven't had a free pass. They massively shot themselves in the foot with their shitty hardware, and the gaming criticism community shot them in the other foot with their always-online plans.

Had the 360 been a different consumer electronic such as a TV, sterio system or dvd player, there would have been an uproar from the consumer base and they would stop selling.

For whatever reason though, 360 got a pass. I know people that have gone through four 360's.

I think that the "You're the newest guy on the block so I can forgive your mistakes" phase of gamers relationship was over about halfway through this gen. What IS very clear is that Third Console Curse is a complete SoB for them.

No, Sony didnt get a free pass, on that point, but that's something you wouldn't know unless you already bought the system and hooked it up. Further more that issues was not game breaking. You coudl not have the PS3 on the net and it would run fine. what we are talking about are these issues

1. Buying a system that will break at the drop of a hat.

2. Buying a system that in theory would not allow you to borrow, or trade games.

3. Building a system that's noticeably weaker but $100 more exspensive
