Halo: MCC wins Giant Bomb's Hottest Mess Award of 2014

It even beat out DriveClub and Assassin's Creed: Unity. That is quite an accomplishment!

This was a disturbingly tight competition, but Halo: The Master Chief collection took the edge with a suite of crucial network features that simply haven't been consistently functional in at least five weeks since the game released. This was a collection of four games that are years old; the very least you expect from such a remaster is for the old games to work right. While Master Chief's failures are arguably the most egregious and the least expected, plenty of other publishers deserve blame this year, with other high profile releases like Driveclub and Assassin's Creed: Unity also launching with various combinations of missing features, broken functionality, poor performance, and rotten microtransactions.

Would still give it to Unity for scumbag monetization as opposed to bad multiplayer servers

Sad that this was such a steaming dump. With the price cuts this might have tempted me to get a XB1. Can't see anything in 2015 making me regret not jumping on them.

Halo was one hot mess, Driveclub wasn't any better though. Halo and Driveclub have two completely budgets though

it faced stiff competition but it rose above the challengers. well done failo collection, the latest update somehow made it worse, funny thing is h5 beta works great

Halo MCC might have won that but it would've been even better if it at least had Halo Reach. Halo 2 sucked to be honest, the worst game in the series and it was the main course in the collection? HA!

although I have had little trouble with the games it deserves this award for the fact so many others have.

Ori not really my bag I don't think (and as @lostrib pointed out on PC and also the 360 if it turned out to be a classic), and as for Quantum Break, defo not. Maybe if we see more and different gameplay but it looks bland as piss to me.

I think the difference is that Drive Club wasn't an established franchise, so there weren't many expectations for it, and as far as Assassin's Creed is concerned we all know Ubisoft is terrible.

Halo MCC was shaping up to be the greatest game compilation out there. It works a lot better now as far as I have experienced, but yeah.

so? its hard to find a mp match, not the end of the world. it sucks sure, but you have four brilliant sp games to work through until its fixed. every major mp game is busted at launch, i fail to see why folks are shitting all over mcc like its some sort of rarity.

Thank god I can play these old games on my old machines nearly glitch free. Shame 343 mucked MCC up so bad on the SP and MP front.

I really enjoyed their talk about Destiny lol (podcast 2, ~2:06:00). How could a game fail this much when it had this much time and resources is incredible. MCC may be a broken pos released just so lems shut up and play yet another Halo until ANOTHER Halo comes out but Destiny, Destiny should've won this award. I wouldn't be surprised if no games released this gen is more disappointing than Destiny, like seriously...

my favorite part of the awards so far is them almost not including the ps4 as one of their runners up for best console exclusives because it was so bad this year.

Damn I need to play those single player campaigns again and realise that I actually hated them because MCC was such a disaster. I thought I loved them but I have been so stupid. The internet tells me these iconic landmark games are crap. Damn. I am so stupid.

Why? Bungie's been making lame campaigns forever. If anything they were maintaining the status quo

I don't know about Halo 4 and i skipped their overpriced DLC called ODST but i played every other Halo campaign in co-op on legendary and it was fun af. Good story? No. But gameplay was 'fun'.

Halo:MC is fantastic value more than FailClub. And after the updates I didn't have any issues.
