I think Skyrim comes out in the top of my head where reviewer didn't seem to bother talking much about the story. COD seem to also gotten a pass for a while now while others were judged far more harshly for their story.

MGS4
GTAV
I think even Destiny story should have been criticized more harshly but good thing there were reviewers with some sense.

It was heavily criticized. The story, or complete and utter lack thereof, is brought up all the time.
Yeah there are heaps of games that have average stories... One of the high profile ones for me is GTA V (and IV for that matter).
Considering any discussion involving video game stories is similar to how this thread has gone down so far, I don't think many games really get away with much in terms of stories.
That being said, If I played some JRPGs again that I haven't played in years I'm sure I'd find it harder to appreciate some of their stories now.
@iknowwhatswrong:
Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Fahrenheit aren't Games.
I did what you see there : /
Unfarted 1,2,3
The Order didn't get away with it.
95% of all games.
Thank David Cage later.
the story was what could have save the order from being total shit but even the game couldn't do it right
I took a hiatus from gaming heavily during college, came back when I had landed the career job and played KOTOR... I've been unfairly and unreasonably chasing that story ever since...
What I've come to observe is that video game stories border on a line between developers not giving a single **** about the story to developers not knowing how to tell a compelling story, to the unicorn where the story is competent enough to sit alongside the gameplay to keep you engaged.
I think games do better when they introduce great characters rather than try and tell a magnum opus.
On a more positive note I'm playing Child of Light right now and I think the story is great.
But yeah most video game stories are a lot of what? or very predicatable
Like 99% of games
You are being far too generous.
Like 99% of games
This. People need to understand the games suck at story telling. I understand that many are invested in some games and they are intrigued by the idea but the story is typical horrendous.
No they don't. Games as a media has every potential to be good at storytelling. The devs are just lazy and try to implement existing formula fitted for other media, which is why it sucks so much.
