What's delusional about Half Life 1 having much better level design that encourages exploration to find some hidden shit, and much more varied, albeit the platforming sucks as does in almost every single first person game, though that's not even close to being as terrifying as the painfully repetitive level design of CE. I'll take the shitty platforming over going through the exact same corridor/hallway/room for hours on end every day of the week.
The gunplay would be around on par, if HL1 didn't have more weapon variety. And the Colt Python Magnum is a slightly better handgun than the gun in CE. It's also better than the shitty gunplay in HL2.
Speaking of devolving elements from 1, the AI is also remarkably well done in HL1 (except for the weird way they turn to face you if you go close to them), far more so than in HL2, and if you count the 'Opposing Force' expansion, that not only shits on any enemy AI from its time, but easily thrumps the AI in a lot FPSs to this day. Sure as hell kills Crysis 2's AI, for example.
