SUMMONING JUTSU !!!
bloody hell that was epic
This is the first time i am actually jealous of console owners.
Still a year after the consoles release tops i'll be playing the game at 4k@60fps.........
They called in gandalf from lord of the ring. I must say that was indeed epic and out of this world. Suprisingly unexpected.
The final summon will be jesus christ slamming a rock the size of saturn.
Is there any gameplay footage of an average battle from start to finish, without a summon finishing things off?
I'm curious to see whether the combat is anything more than button mashing, and whether you have any strategic control over the other party members.

there are tons of people streaming the demo. After a few hours Youtube will be flooded with footage of let's plays. Pretty much everyone's saying the demo surpasses expectations.

Ramuh is typically one of the early summons you get, too lol.
I feel they're on par with how excellent the XII summons were (which many didnt see in-game since the trigger conditions were weird).
But I do like the live weather/ambient effects.
Animationswise, it is good, but are we gonna end up seeing this everytime we summon someone?
That shit right there is what discouraged me from using summons in post 7 Final Fantasies.
IX had a short version of summon effects that was the default after the 1st summon, or until you got hold of a specific accessory.
XII had a specific trigger conditions for their big ability.
Did you play them?
-
I personally dont like its trigger conditions. Seems like too much of a crutch for someone playing bad and dying, when it should be a reward for doing well.
That was raw as ****!
edit: So summons are only available within "near death" state?
-----Maybe, or maybe only Ramuh
Really cool but seems very op. Just let yourself go into red and a summon kills the enemy.
-----I think it won't be that op in the full game
This will look even better when its on PC.
-----Hell yeahh it will, but can't wait that long for a PC release so getting it for the PS4
You already waited like 8 years for the PS4 version. What's another year?
Wow, can this series get even more ridiculous?
Remember when Ramuh was actually a character, when Ifrit and Shiva were actually characters, and many of the summons had a story or connected to a theme or moment? Like FFVI. Hell, Odin had a story.
Not here however. They are just here to show of the graphics, like FFVII and beyond summons ultimately were.

so true. FF6 really presented espers/summons in a different light. It was really refreshing to see them as people and not just weapons. I miss those days.

Yeah, one of them was Terra's FATHER, how about that? One (I think Valgamora, or something like that) played a pivotal role in Narshe. Ramuh takes care of Terra and gives you not only his power but the power of three others that escaped the Magitek factory, where you meet and even fight Ifrit and Shiva.
But really, if Celes attempts suicide, remember that seagull that gave her Locke's bandanna? What a moment of genius that was when you come back to the island and find a summon on the beach, Quetzl. So basically, what I thought was a deus ex machina turned out to really be an Esper helping her and died right after. I wish later FF's had good direction like this, and be more subtle about things..
Holy ****! Beautiful! I remember being fascinated by summons in FFVII, but this one took it to a whole new dimension. Music and vocals were epic as well.

I did play them. But never bothered with the summoning.
Were the short versions ~4 seconds long like they were in the SNES games?
@bunchanumbers: yup, but i just can't accept that others are playing and i have to wait for a year or few for the PC version which won't be much of a difference. that's how i will feel if the game releases.
but if the game succeeds i will also get a PC version
Holy shit. That looks amazing. I remember when the summons were awesome, then FF XIII happened.
FFXIII's summons are easily the most terrible in the entire series. They are boring and they are useless. I was expecting some of that shit here but they actually went back to the classic one powerful attack cinematic but all seamlessly ala FF12 but even better.
WTF are you guys taking about? FFXIII's summons at the very least were free megalixers. That's ignoring the fact while they were on screen doing damage none of your party members could take damage. FFXII probably had the most worthless summons in the series. You were better off just using quickenings.
XII and XIII both had shit summons. I'm glad they are getting back to super flashy summons that just arrive, wreck shit, and leave. Better that way.
The demo is frickin huge, even longer than whole The order 1886 game...lol?
Taking out all the cinematics in The Order, it may damn well be, lol. (looking forward to downloading The Order one day on a Plus sale for $19 or less) Just finished the demo, and man was it ever beefy. I am hype for this game now, I thought Bloodborne would be my favorite of 2015 with no contest, now I'm not so sure. Battle system is so so good. This feels like the game that should have followed FFXII all along, it feels like a much more natural progression from that game than FFXIII ever did.
At the time FFXIII released I thought it was good enough, but in retrospect, especially after Duscae, I think what little positive regard FFXIII got from people like me will dwindle. (quite the opposite of how respect for FFXII has only increased since it's own prime passed)
This game has way too much Naruto in it though. Noctis = Sasuke, and his warp sword = The Flying Thunder God jutsu.
At this point the troop transports drop almost dozen guys at a time, and there is something so satisfying about warping right in the middle of them, knocking a good chunk of them on their asses with Tempest, then finishing of a few on the ground with Dragoon Jump. (being able to do that move is so fun, reminds of my boy Kain ala FFIV)
Whoa! Haven't played a Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy X, but this looks insane! That music! :D

The sound work is stellar. Best main theme since Chrono Cross.
Not to parade on the FF circle jerk, but personally I found the demo on my FF Type 0 disc to be kinda disappointing... Sure it's nice looking in animation, but some of the scenery is bland. They attempt to make it open world like skyrim yet you can't swim, you can't climb or do much of anything except fight. Granted I only played for about 30 mins but the fighting system seemed boring to me. I never got to the summons part, and hell I couldn't figure out how to switch to a different party member. Can you switch? I pushed every button and I was stuck with the guy with the black hair. It felt more restrictive in that sense than FF13. If they want to make the game like skyrim they need to put actual quests in it. NPCs to talk to, stuff that every other final fantasy game has had. I felt like the demo just seemed like one big mission to hunt a monster. I didn't see any side quests the whole time and there was no real plot.
I hope the real game has a plot, lets you switch characters and isn't just about graphics with no substance. I am missing old school turn based FF honestly. For real time game play in a jrpg, I prefer the tales of franchise. I played Tales of hearts R on my vita later this evening for about 15 minutes and had more fun playing that then the time I spent in the FF demo. Also not liking the trend of making the characters even more Japanese looking. All other FF games they didn't look like they stepped off the streets of Akihabra Tokyo.
I can see the Hype Disappointment train fueling up. Looks like quite a few people are going to be taking a ride on it soon! xD
Don't Preorder.

I think a lot of us are just acknowledging that it does indeed look bad ass. No surprise though, it wouldn't be FF without the eye candy.
But nope, if I were offered the full game for 5 bucks right now I still wouldn't bite. Zero hype, this is the most "wait and see" game of all time for me. I refuse to be on the front lines with this one given that it's a development hell game, it's Nomuras brainchild and it's a product of contemporary SE.
I'll be shocked (and happy) if it isn't a pile of shit.
@ConanTheStoner:
don't forget that the game switched directors mid-through development too. XD
That might actually be a good thing haha.
Man, I hope this game breaks expectations and ends up being a gem. I used to look forward to FF releases more than anything else and I'd love to see them back on top!
Just being extremely cautious with my hype this time.

No, you cant. Noctis is the only playable character.
@Midnightshade29: do my eyes decieve me? Did you just say that you don't like the fact that, the japanese developers, are making their characters "more japanese". Lord take me I can't live in this world anymore.

and why aren't they doing their rpgs more like western rpgs!!!!!! they should copy skyrim obviously!

It was stated by Square Enix some time ago that this would be a demo that was only there to show the very basics of the combat system and get feedback. It was obvious that it would not have any sort of story or sidequests, obviously that does not mean the final game will not have those.
