No, it's a growing response to it. We can only hope it catches on like wildfire and doesn't get extinguished by big business boots.Bigboi500
It already is catching on like wildfire. Independent business can always find a niche market to profit off of. A major reason why they are doing so well is because there is no one taking on the niche consumer anymore, and pouring millions into a single project (rather than focusing resources on a single idea). There is no way the independent market will ever be completely absorbed (monopoly is anathema to profit, growth and sustainability), but, like in the bigger markets, there will be talented individuals who will be purchased by larger conglomerates and developers to work together as a team. It's how business operates. It's a fluid market, always changing. @Shielder7: I'm still waiting for you to come back and join the adult conversation.

you're trying way too hard to troll bro.

A different opinion counts as trolling? Only in SW....

Dragon Age 2 was a huge improvemnet, the combat was actually fun and it had a more solid story line. Dragon Age Origins was just boring.

EA is a bad company because of it's insistence for more DLC galore, microtransactions, always online DRM, and loyal advocate for blocking used game for the sake of more profit (GREED). Funny how EA was removed from the stock market. All along, they gave a lot of reasons for their decline but could not accept the one that's obvious, they're greed to milk gamers from their games within games.

Just ignore him, he's trolling looking for a flame war. Don't feed the troll.

Really?

I find him to be one of the more reasonable posters on this board, and well, he presented his case far better than you did.

I don't know if you can call that trying, reaching maybe. In fact I'm having trouble thinking of series that improved with EA or to say the least didn't degenerate.

The only developer who "died" under Activision (to my knowledge) was Infinity Ward.

Activision is just a really greedy company, at least they haven't destroyed any series they touch outside of Call of Duty and Guitar Hero.

EA use to be a good company. Then it became the Evil Empire. After that it became cool again with BF 1942 and free maps, DLC, etc. Now I guess it's back to being a bad company even though others do the same if not worst like Activision.

  • They started the whole Online Pass thing
  • On Disc DLC
  • They were voted worst company in America
  • They started this whole evil Mircrotransaction thing
  • They are greedy bastards

the problem with EA is their "machine". They are capable of making good games, but they are always looking for greatness. That usually means going out and buying a creative company. That company will make one or two good games, but will eventually fall into EA's machine. That machine is all about turning a video game, a work of art, into a more profitable and replicable product. They are to games what paint-by-numbers is to painting.

They will pour money into projects, but the effect is consistently the same. They take devs with beautiful creative fire and smother that fire with burdensome demands. This pattern has went from the 90s to today. You might be tempted to say that of course a company wants to make profitable products, but when dealing with artistic industries you just can't let that run your thinking. EA's legacy is a graveyard of devs. Not very profitable in the end.

I often see people hate on EA (well on the internet at least, take that for what it is) and I don't understand why. I do disagree with a couple of their business practices, such as online passes and Day 1 DLC, but overall they do far more positive things for the industry. For instance they brought Mass Effect over to the PS3, without EA we PS3 guys wouldn't have gotten such an awesome series to play. And they continue to publish quality games, the "hate" they receive makes no sense.

So what is the rational behind the EA haters? I'm glad they exist and as long as they keep making great games they get my money. Also for the record: Dragon Age 2 was a lot better than Dragon Age Origins.

Besides the pay to win online models in every one of their online games, the online passes, them being responsible for the biggest blunder in gaming history (SWTOR) forcing rushed release dates on their devs and blaming them when the game fails, destroying the MoH series, turning the battlefield series into CoD 2.0 with yearly releases, destroying every game/series they touch (ME, Dragon Age, Dead Space, MOH) the list goes on, the overpriced DLC and the other things I missed....nah EA is definitely not a bad company at all.

EA has ruined franchise after franchise with trying to please every gamer out there. Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Dead Space have all suffered the wrath of EA executives. EA wants Facebook, Twitter and multiplayer in every EA game at the sacrifice of quality. EA is bad and you should feel bad for supporting one of the most rotten companies in the game industry today.

My issue with EA is that they stopped putting their games on Steam and I like having my games as organized as possible. So Steam and retail for my PC gaming. I have yet to buy Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3 because it forces me to use origin. If they start putting their games on Steam again, then I will care to buy their games again. Or at least stop forcing me to use origin even when I buy a retail copy.

SO TC you list 2 bad things about EA but only list one good thing yet you claim they are good? NOW i don't think they are BAD company but not the best. If you want a bad company look at crapcon. They have "day one DLC" but it's on the disc already when some buys the game. Then to make matter worse is that i know they are proud of it. I don't have issue too much with day one dlc because a team can have nearly EASY 3 weeks before release after a game goes gold.

Seeing that I don't use other services, I couldn't care less that Valve doesn't put their games on other services. That would be a problem to gamers that don't like steam and wish to use another service. That is not me, so I see no reason to care. Valves has their games on Steam and that's all that I care about.

ShadowMoses900

Reasons why I hate EA:

1. EA's goal isn't to publish good games, but to monopolize the industry

2. EA's business philosophy isn't to promote good game development, but to buy up developers who make good games, and in turn, causing that company to end up not making good games. Example: 1 year development time for Dragon Age 2. Other once good studios like Bullfrog and Westwood have all fell victim to this.

3. EA got rid of Ensemble Studios (The Age of Empires dudes) because they only knew how to make RTS games

4. EA is jealous of Steam, therefore tried to compete with it using Origins. We ended up losing out because the industry is now further segregated

Taken from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-LE0ycgkBQ

-This is for buying out some of the best game companies and turning them to mediocrity.
-This is for having some of the worst customer service in the gaming industry.
-This is for deliberately holding back game content for the sole purpose of making customers pay more for it later as DLC.
-This is for strictly enforcing copyrights on content that you did not even create.
-This is for taking the Need for Speed franchise and completely ruining it.
-This is for supporting the S.O.P.A.
-This is for overworking some of your employees with no benefeits, demolishing any creative talent they have.
-This is for making terms of use that allow you to backstab your customers any time you see fit.
-This is for releasing the same things every year, an increasingly large number being the only difference.
-This is for forcing your customers to stay online to even play several games you publish at all.
-This is for backstabbing Valve, preventing the developers you publish for from releasing their games via Steam for the sole purpose of promoting your own platform.
-This is for overhyping your games and not delivering the content you promised.
-This is for increasing the funding of media review organizations to get better reviews of your games.
-This is for monopolizing the entire gaming industry and crushing all that oppose you.

Day 1 DLC, Pre-Order bonuses scattered throughout multiple stores, Online pass, Online pass FOR SINGLEPLAYER!!?, Play one other EA game and get X piece of content, Get X piece of content with Collectors edition and get a different piece of content with the limited edition, Games rushed to store shelves (Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 2, Medal of Honor Warfighter). Yeah amazing company... EDIT: How the hell did I forget about there most recent bullcrap ? Microtransactions in $60 games and creating downloadable content for a game that isn't ready for it to be released a month or two later.

EA is not a bad company . . . They are the WORST company. Online pass, forced implementation of online into single player games, consolizing Dragon Age, abandoning their unique quality IP's like Mirror's Edge, not giving their developers the time and freedom to make good games, excessive ripoff DLC, and the list goes on.

[QUOTE="ShadowMoses900"]

Reasons why I hate EA:

1. EA's goal isn't to publish good games, but to monopolize the industry

If they were, they would be trying to buy out Activision and Ubisoft to become the dominant publisher.Learn what monopolise means and look at Ms and Internet explorer in the EU antitrust case THATS attempting to monopolise.

2. EA's business philosophy isn't to promote good game development, but to buy up developers who make good games, and in turn, causing that company to end up not making good games. Example: 1 year development time for Dragon Age 2. Other once good studios like Bullfrog and Westwood have all fell victim to this.

Ea like any other big company evolve and change, look at HMV its closing a load of stores in the UK because it needs to adapt to be profitable.Ea's essentially doing the same its simple buisness 101 and gamers dont seem to get the fact they are catering to market trends and whats making them money and like any good company their aim is to make money not good games not anything the only people they need to answer to is shareholders much like Capcom,Acti or any other major corporation out there now.

At the same time Ea's made some crackers this gen like Battlefield 3,NFS Hot Pursuit,Burnout Paradise,Skate 1,2 and 3 as well as being a publishing partner for Rock band..And all those franchises including Skate which was launched this gen are still in Ea's playbook but skates on hiatus after fan response to 3 and how people wanted bigger changes.

3. EA got rid of Ensemble Studios (The Age of Empires dudes) because they only knew how to make RTS games

That was Microsoft....not EA big boo boo.

4. EA is jealous of Steam, therefore tried to compete with it using Origins. We ended up losing out because the industry is now further segregated

Or like any big company wanted more control over their own product...i present to you all 3 consoles this gen and even WB i think pushing their Ultraviolet movie stuff over iTunes.

Honestly half this board needs out more if they think EA's a bad company by any stretch of the word...Halliburton and various others are far worse especially banks....
