The DS is like the Wii. It is hard to develop for because it's control sytle is different. I'm not sure if the developers will ever really learn to develop properly for these systems, but I'm sure in the next generation of handhelds, if Nintendo continues with touch screen gaming that is, the developers will be more used to developing for a system like this.

Example: The GBA used the same control style as the Gameboy. The developers were used to it. Therefore, they could develop better games for it.

And look at how many remakes and multiplats existed on the GBA.

Of course the DS would be better if you could play GBC games on it though, because I would like to play some old GBC games again.

If anything the PSP helped the DS get more popular then it would have been. Competition can often drive sales.

Alot of those games on the GBA were ports fanboy, original games take more time to make. And the DS is far more successful than the GBA so i'm guessing we'll be seeing more of the likes of Contra 4, DQ 9 and Zelda

Also DS plays GBA, so yeah. Cry more

All the DS needs now is Metroid Dread, a new Fire Emblem, a new Golden Sun, and a remake of FF VI, and it is set.

True, but another way to look at it is marketshare. They lost 1/3 market share hence the "big bite" the other guy mentioned. But as someone else said they probably help each other cause competition fuels sales.

Yeah i mean ports like Mario 64 and Resident Evil (FF3 is a remake which you'd know if you had a clue about games). So yeah like those TWO games (and most of the crap on the PSP).

Basically your argument for this thread seems to be that one Nintendo handheld is better than another handheld (and both are of course are better than the PSP). That's probably the dumbest attempt i've ever seen to troll the DS, especially given that the DS plays GBA games

How is the PSP effecting the portable video gaming market when no-ones buying the games? and why should anyone care that the PSP can outsell the game gear when the DS is on track to be the best selling Nintendo handheld ever?

Competition will indeed fuel sales. DS sales. Nintendo were forced to raise their game and they did. DS owners will soon get Contra 4, Ninja Gaiden DS, Dragon Quest 9, Sonic RPG and Zelda and there' still a ton of games to be announced at E3. It's over, DS wins by a landslide

150,000 a week? That includes the recent Eurocraze over the price drop. It would've still been on the 80,000 levels if it weren't for that.

The DS plays all GBA games and has a much better battery life and build quality. It also plays DS games. Other than price, there is no reason to buy a GBA/SP/Micro anymore.

Let me add a point to your op me2002.

5 AAA and (tough counting, hope I'm right) 55 AA.

Give and take some of the 8.8, 8.9 near AAA status, the dev went to make this much AAA and AA games. If the PSP wasn't released, those AAA and AA's could be under the DS and translated to almost the exact same as the GBA.

So, back to my point, PSP took a big bite out of the DS market. Taking with it, half the AAA's and 2/3 of the AA's.

I agree, I really enjoyed the GBA but I haven't cared about DS at all since it was launched.

It has some good games like Mario Kart and stuff, but overall the GBA just had so much more that I liked.

Thanks for the advice Mr Maturity. As for your topic it refers only to Gamespot.Critics in gerneral have received the DS very well so far which is very impressive given that (unlike the GBA) it's best titles didnt tend to be high rated SNES ports. As for "game quality decreasing" The DS has some of best third parties in the world working on it and THE best first party in the world making 96 titles for it.The GBA has also been out 4 years longer than the DS. We shall see where the DS stands in 4 years time

The DS is far more successful than any other handheld and has gained a much greater portion of the market. and yet we are supposed to believe that the DS has lost market share because 20 million people bought a PSP (apparently to be used as an MP3 player)

The problem with your analogy is that both handhelds are intrinsically different. The DS had a slow start as developers have only recently started making an effort with the machine. As such the DS in a far stronger position with regards to dev support now than the GBA ever was. Also the DS is still alive

The GBA had an impressive start but support tailored off after a few years. Developers tended to use it as a dumping ground for ports (as did Nintendo). The GBA is for all intents and purposes dead

The DS will last longer, the DS is more successful, the DS has better third party support, the DS has better first party support. The DS wins

I was comparing DS's games to GBA's in the same amount of time after launch incase you didn't get that.

I was also talking about now, not the future.

If its got better 1st and 3rd party support it sure is not showing it.

This might improve in the future but no one can see the future.

You see strong 1st and 3rd party. I see devs (including nintendo) cashing in on carp games. I'm not gonna argue with you because its obvious we're not gonna see the other's point of view.
