As PC gaming continues its long death spiral, it has been announced that the DotA 2 tournament The International 2015 will have the largest prize pool in esports history (surpassing last years International). It currently sits at $11.6 Million and counting. The International 2015 surpassed the previous prize pool in half the time, and will continue to grow until with Valve extending stretch goals out to $15 Million
The prize pool for The International, Valve's upcoming Dota 2 world championship tournament, is over $11.6 million dollars and counting – the biggest sum yet for any eSports competition, ever.
This is already well beyond last year's $10.9 million, which current Dota 2 players surpassed in half the time according to the game's prize pool tracking charts.
For those unfamiliar with Dota 2, the cash is coming from purchases of The Compendium, an upgradeable digital book that includes tickets to the tournament, rewards, challenges, cosmetic items, and more.
A quarter of The Compendium's sales goes towards the prize pool, which you can track on the official website for The International 2015.
