Do we have the technology to play a console quality game on the go? No talking about a laptop, something handheld I guess.

It sucks that we have to confine ourselves to our homes to enjoy high quality games.

such a hard question to answer because its so subjective. and the more powerful our microprocessors suitable for use in handhelds, similar things are happening for stationary hardware - but of course they're magnitudes more powerful. so someone could always argue 'no' if they're comparing to what's available for use in machines that get plugged into mains electricity.

but i'm gonna say, gut feeling - yeah we have pretty good technology for this now.

I guess Tegra K1 and Snapdragon 805 will tell if mobile gaming is going into "console quality" direction.

First we had touchscreens, but people soon found out that those lacked the input methods required to run anything but the most basic of games.

Later something called buttons could be found on handheld gaming devices from the Gameboy onward.

We really won't know until it's released but Tegra K1 is making it look possible, all of the demo's I've seen look really good. If Tegra k1 is not already there I believe by at least midway through this console gen handhelds will be there

Yes. It's called a PS Vita. The problem is that its technology is severely under utilized by everyone in the industry, including Sony.

We have to technology (specifically with Tegra K1) to roughly match previous gen games on the go, which many would consider more than sufficient on a 5 inch screen.

The bigger issue is that most people don't *want* to play big cinematic HD games on the go, especially if it means being permanently restricted to a 5 inch screen. There are plenty of high quality games on handheld that don't attempt to provide cinematic console-like experiences and those tend to be the most successful handheld games.

Console games are meant for the big screen with surround sound.

This. The idiocy of this board, in general, continues to amaze me.

I don't understand the question. You mean, can we play something like 'Destiny' on a handheld device?

Each year cellphones make some noticeable jumps in processing power. They could go further but they are always battling battery life.

Nvidia made a huge push towards power consumption with Maxwell. It's not unrealistic to think that within 10 years we'll have mobile devices that can do graphics better than PCs can today.
