DigiTimes: 16 million PS4's shipping this holiday season.

Having high hopes on its Playstation 4 (PS4) game console, Sony internally expects the machine's annual shipments to reach 16 million units in 2013 with the supply chain expected to start mass shipments in August, according to sources from PS4 component makers.

The sources pointed out that the PS4 will be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Pegatron Technology, and the player have just begun the processes of request for quotation (RFQ) for the related components. Therefore, the component shipments are unlikely to start until August, but should allow the machine to show up before the year-end holidays in 2013.

Sony shipped a total of 150 million Playstation 2s and 100 million Playstations and has shipped 77 million Playstation 3s over the past seven years.

Do these figures support a single or dual region launch for Ps4 this year? More?

That sounds like a very made-up number. 

Sony intitially was going to ship 2 million but after they multiplied 2 million by the hype of 8gb GDDR5 RAM they came to the firgure of 16 million.

Didnt Sony say they estimated to ship somewhere like 12 million Vitas in 2012  :lol:

Where are they going to get all the GDDR5? This thing is either going to run into production stalls, or it's going to be EXPENSIVE.

Prob still sell out on launch.

Imagine all that GDDR5 together! Lems jump out... ASAP!!! because when the Holiday Season is over not much will remain from M$'s sinking ship.

I think maybe this is a misquote; and they are saying that they will be able to be at a capactiy in which they can ship 16 million in a year.

Yeah, but SCE announced on stage PS4 will release this holiday season. Holiday season starts at September in the US (being generous). And this story says mass production (for PS4) will start in August. 

And MS expects to ship 30 million Next Xbox's this holiday season. :cool:

So, it starts in October. Sells 3 million in that month.  The pattern follows and blows up on Christmas? Doesn't even seem right. Isn't November the biggest sales month?

Also, does the pattern of around 3 million per month (and that holiday burst covering close to the reast of the 16 million shipped) indicate Sony are planning to follow through on those figures by doing a worldwide release? 

I perosnally think the PS4 will do good, but not 16 million good

I doubt Sony could even make 16 million in three months time.
