DigitalFoundry Halo 5 Gamescom Test

Seems to run smooth for the most part except for a glaring hiccup at 28 seconds in, although I'm not sure if it's actual FPS drop or a glitch.

Anyway, can't wait, although it was hilarious how Fred had to tell Chief how to kill a Hunter xD

Outdated visuals, 60FoV, 810p (or is the resolution higher now?) and it still drops your fps BY FIFTY PERCENT? What? 343i is skilled at what they're doing LOL

Would be nice to have both but between the 2 I'd take the 60 FPS, guess that's what PC is for.

Those f****ing test runs/ comparisons is what ruined gaming. It gives people "bragging" rights to defend their purchase because nobody wants to know think they bought the inferior product ie system wars. Lol. Still a day 1 purchase.

True. But YouTube is such a mainstream site. Resolution and FPS wasn't a BIG DEAL until these f****ing sites started to push the agenda on YOUTUBE.

As long as they get the framerate smooth at 60fps I couldn't care less what the resolution is (within reason obviously).

The game is going to be awesome. I wish it was releasing tomorrow. Just one of the great games for the Xbox One this holiday unlike the laughably barren PS4 upcoming games.

you really only notice it from the frame counter not by eye from the action, it's not even as if the framerate drop happened mid-action, in the around 28 second drop off seemed to happen between scenes but the actions bits maintained the higher frame rate (at around 60fps) while the seeming non-action scenes cut was at a lower (around 30fps), kind of funny because you expect it to dip more during action intensive scenes

The graphics looks like Halo 4 that's disappointing. nevertheless 60 fps is awesome and they took that risk and i'm impressed.

Gives me hope that future Xbone games will do the same. of course for FPS games that is i'll take 60 fps.

Graphics aren't much. But I guess if you like the Halo formula you'll like this.

To be fair that looked like a very bad cutscene. But is the resolution really 810p?

If somebody doesn't get a game because of System Wars, then they should quit gaming all together.

You're not looking close enough, it looks a lot better than Halo 4 and has a lot more going on, not to mention it's 60 FPS which requires twice the rendering demand.

I don't even consider it a bad thing, Halo 4 was one of the best looking games last gen, even if Halo 5 only looked slightly better the fact that it's a massive sandbox and runs at 60 FPS with all the shit going on at once is an achievement in itself. I'll take this over a linear smaller game that runs at 18 fps just to show off how many mustache hairs a character has.

What's the resolution at right now, do you know?

They haven't specified yet, I assume it's going to run at 1080p but likely with one of those dynamic scaling systems that alters the resolution on the fly to maintain performance. If I had to guess the low end would be 1328x1080 like Halo 2 Anniversary, and the high end obviously 1920x1080.

If it's a static resolution I would assume it will be locked in between those somewhere.

multiplayer is a rock solid 60fps which is all that matters

343 studio is the studio that's making me interested in Halo again. I loved Halo 1 but hated pretty much every other Bungie Halo game. Still havent played 4 but it looks amazing and I wanna play it so badly.

On a completely unrelated note, Everytime I read 343 Studios, I think about that old shitty dev company 989 studios that brought out the worst Twisted Metal games ever and nearly killed the franchise. and that 3xtreme game they brought out lol. I guess the get props for using 1337 5p34k before it became a huge thing :P

989 also gave us this, so I wouldn't judge them too harshly.

that's what i want to know because it was 810p during e3 which is a pathetic update since their 720p beta.

IIRC it had a dynamic resolution and 810p was just the low point, I could be wrong though.

The game looks like it should be 1080p60fps with no issues, don't know what the problem is.

When they called it Xbox one I didn't think that that meant the games would have the same graphics as the original Xbox.

Good thing they're using that cloud power for that 810p and sometimes 60 sometimes 30 frames per second gameplay.

Damn the game looks fun! It's fast paced, and sure it looks smooth with the 60fps but what's amazing to me is how much is going on in the game. A ton of enemies and different ways to tackle them in the environment.

I haven't been this excited for a Halo game since Halo 3.

343i is the problem. They did an amazing job for Halo 4 visuals but now are just porting their old engine to current gen and call it a day.
