3200 x 1800 = 5,760,000 pixels
PS4 Pro has 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
Frame rate target is 60 fps.

"There is the sense that the vanilla PS4 version is lead platform, with flawless performance and most of the visual features."
Vanilla PS4 FTW!
To be honest, Dirt Rally 2.0 doesn't come close to both FH4 & GTS in terms of visuals and I expected more. But at the same time, kudos to Codemasters targeting 60fps, but Codemasters could have target 1440p for the Pro though. But 60fps is more important for any racing game.
All in all, Xbox One X version is really impressive.
Why anyone who's a racing game fan would buy a PS4 is beyond me.
Oh and I don't care for the comparison either.
Basically, to appreciate true racing in video game form, you need to race in VR. Dirt Rally on PSVR is freaking amazing. And VR support has already been announced for DR 2.0. Flat screen racing doesn't hold a candle to VR racing.

Different persona same old shit.
Notice how no one does PSVR threads anymore, dead I tell ya lol.
There are people that say they can't tell the difference between 1080P and 4K. Yet watching this video at its max setting of 1080P you can clearly see that the 4K XB1X version of the game has much better IQ than the 1080P PS4 Pro version. Imagine how much better that 4K XB1X version would look playing at 4K instead of 1080P....
@i_p_daily: Imagine being able to piss off a person as much as I've pissed you off. Oh, wait, you don't have to imagine. You're the one pissed off. Notice how you are replying to me consistently...still. And notice you will reply to this comment unless you have any dignity.

Where are all the people claiming Namco was lazy because Ace combat 7 was 1080p on X? Why aren't they calling Codemasters lazy for having the pro perform identically to the base PS4 despite the Pro being more powerful? I'll wait...
That aside, it's clear they prioritized frame rate over resolution given the Pro's 1080p and X's dynamic scaling that goes down to 1800p. This is the kind of decision making devs should be doing. I'm sure if they could get Pro to a higher res while comfortably hitting 60fps they would have.

Those people either need glasses or are trolls. Probably of the same ilk as those that claim no difference between 30 fps and 60fps.
I’m playing the game on PC at 1440p at over 100 fps with ultra settings. I wonder how that compares to the 4K /HDR 60 fps Xbox one x version?
Funny how days after I said that complaining about Pro's performance is lame cause 1440 is plenty fine, this Dirt Rally video comes and shits on that. Dishonord 2 and other cusp of mid-gen games are only ones I found unplayable on Pro. So I played them on X.
The Pro is a year older, a 100 cheaper, and the PS4 was just fine so the Pro was icing on top. Xbox botched years with terrible hardware design and finally made an impressive machine, it was a must have. It's kind of empty wins having better versions of games so late in gen, when everyone is ready to move onto 9th gen which is definitely under 2 years away.
The old Xbox was terrible and the X is great totally worth the upgrade, its just gonna suck when I get to my 1 year anniversary with my X and they announce the Anaconda. Since I got a sweet trade in deal, and was on sale, I didn't pay a whole lot. The X is worth nothing in trade in, so I can't imagine buying the Xbox 4. The X will be a nice Xbox to have with my PS5 in 9th gen.
so the game on x runs great on a 4k hdr tv and also at 60fps. I believe there is no reason for haters to hate that version of the game.
on ps4 pro runs at 1080p 60fps. again no reason for all the hate pc guys always said 1080p 60fps is good enough.
my suggestion to console owners is this: only buy games that target 60fps. your hard work money will speak louder than 1 billion internet threads
I'm just glad they supported the X this time, I love Dirt 4 and was disappointed it never got X-Enhanced. Dirt Rally 2.0 is awesome, and it does look pretty nice especially with all the detailed damaged modelling, it's not just about the location, so do not expect something that rivals Forza Horizon in looks.
It's a brutal game however, and quite technical, lacks the pizzazz found in the Dirt series and is definitely a hardcore rally sim and not for everyone, don't let the high Metacritic score fool you into getting it if you're not into this sort of game.

@Antwan3K: Dynamic 4K? That’ll silence the haters!
Yes Dynamic but Mostly holds 4K.
It would be the same as dropping a few frames here and there. The game is 4K.
Would you rather they lock the resolution to 4K and drop down to 55 FPS when the game engine hitches?
I think the Devs made a smart decision. Hold the FR and drop the res when need be.

Agreed
No reason at all this game wasn't at least dynamic 1440P on Pro. It is definitely Lazy for CM not to put more effort into the Pro version. At least they put a solid effort into the XB1X version but it sucks for people without an X.
With Ace Combat Namco was even lazier. The game ran worse on X than Pro even though in most games the X is around 2X the Pro. It would be the equivalent of the game running better on PS4 poor vs Pro.

Despite Codemasters being lazy on the Pro, (which I do agree they should've went 1440p) at least they prioritized 60fps on all consoles, that's saying alot they work their asses targeting framerates and that's very, very important in any racing game, period!
@EG101: I don’t believe either dev is lazy. I’m sure they had their reasons. Perhaps they ran out of time, or maybe 1440p would have introduced dips or tearing like the original Xbox one. The fact that performance is solid on all platforms is awesome.

Maybe Lazy is not the correct word but Cheap. Too cheap to put the budget into the enhanced versions.
@subspecies: VR racing - if it used the same game - would be cool....for a while. Unfortunately its going to be a cut down version, more than likely without on screen opponents, one track and very little replay ability.
So, PS4 Pro owners are paying more for PS4 performance and resolutions?
In this instance yes. I'm curious what the reasoning is behind keeping it the same as the base, but I'm hoping it's a good one.
@tormentos: Could be a bug. Could be that there's a reason why Sony never gave their console the obvious name PS4K.

No it's not a bug. I took a look at previous Dirt games and none of them offer resolutions above 1080p. So this is no exception. It's weird, but intentional.
@sealionact: Except that's just not true. Dirt Rally on the PSVR is the entire game, all races/courses/cars and everything. They didn't cut back on the content at all.
@pmanden: I never said they would, did you even read what i wrote?
@ermacness: I agree you sound idiotic.
@i_p_daily: Yup, I read what you wrote. You stated that "Why anyone who's a racing game fan would buy a PS4 is beyond me." I don't recall anyone in the forum stating that the PS4 has the best racing games. My point was that everyone agrees on that, so there is no need to even put it up for discussion.

Oh cows have tried, but ultimately failed lol.
There is no excuse for this and is completely on the devs.
PS4 has built in checkerboarding hardware, why not take time to implement? At least get to 1440p?
Same issue with Xbox in the beginning of generation where eSRAM has built in tiling to help with resolution but devs rarely used it.
@i_p_daily: Ah ok. I didn't know cows had been THAT desperate.
Yeah there's an alt cow here who recently used Metashitic to run down MS games and when pointed out that the Forza games have rated higher than Sony's best racers, then the cow tried to use YouTube videos to prove that GT was better lol.

XBO's ESRAM tile render memory bandwidth is no better than GDDR5 memory solution in PS4.
Removing XBO's eSRAM usage issue. W5000 with 12 CU is unable to match 7850 let alone slightly higher clocked R7-265 (PC's PS4 equivalent).
For comparison, MSI Gaming X GTX 980 Ti has about 700 GB/s (via CUDA) 3MB L2 cache hyper fast micro tile cache render feature. Maxwell GPU's L2 cache storage is improved with delta color compression. NVIDIA's smart Maxwell era driver converts traditional immediate mode render into traditional immediate mode tile cache render.
Major improvements with Turing GPUs centred with L2 cache, hence improving raster tile rendering capabilities.
Xbox One X's 2MB render cache is based on Hawaii's ROPS tiny render cache.
https://www.amd.com/Documents/GCN_Architecture_whitepaper.pdf
The old GCN’s Render Back End (RBE) cache. Page 13 of 18.
Once the pixels fragments in a tile have been shaded, they flow to the Render Back-Ends (RBEs). The RBEs apply depth, stencil and alpha tests to determine whether pixel fragments are visible in the final frame. The visible pixels fragments are then sampled for coverage and color to construct the final output pixels. The RBEs in GCN can access up to 8 color samples (i.e. 8x MSAA) from the 16KB color caches and 16 coverage samples (i.e. for up to 16x EQAA) from the 4KB depth caches per pixel. The color samples are blended using weights determined by the coverage samples to generate a final anti-aliased pixel color. The results are written out to the frame buffer, through the memory controllers
Xbox One X’s RBE/ROPS has 2048 KB or 2 MB render cache.
Xbox One X’s RBE has 256 KB. 8x RBE = 2048 KB (or 2 MB) render cache. Xbox One X's contains more rendering data on the chip when compared to Radeon HD 7970 and R9-290X/R9-390X. Microsoft's design push brings render cache closer to L2 cache like design instead of external memory like design on XBO's ESRAM.
Polaris RX-480, Xbox One X and PS4 Pro has 2MB L2 cache which are connected to TMU read/write units (compute shader read/write path).

Agreed.. if a game mostly holds 30pfs but has dips, it's still classified as a "30fps game".. same can for a 60fps game with dips.. the same logic goes for a dynamic 4K game with dips..
the game is still "4K"..
only the "haters" think otherwise (inb4 obligatory @goldenelementxl screengrab of @kuu2 talking about fauxK in 2016)..
@i_p_daily:
And just like that, the point clearly went over your head.
No I just don't care for your point cow, and just made a joke of it lol.

GT Is better than Forza because for you score don't count.
More people consider GT better and GT is a bigger franchise than Forza even that forza runs on 2 platforms.
The only measurement for quality that we have is SCORES were ever you like then or not, is sites like Metacritic what have make Forza what it is period without score you could not call Forza as been better period.
This silly hate of scores and site when it serve you people best is lol worthy Metacritic has Forza Horizon 4 with 90+ score because it is a damn great game it has sea of thieves with 60 because it sucks ass.
Deal with it.

Then this game is screw up on PS4 Pro.
This game is 1080p on the base PS4 there is no chance in hell that it could be 1080p on both machine the PS4 Pro was intentionally hold back.
