Nothing whatsoever, I was just sharing the numbers lol. As I say in one of my later posts, i wasn't sure if this was a suitable thread, but I decided to go ahead with it anyway, and on the whole, people seem to be happy :)

I'll tell you what I take away from it. Being harsh to Nintendo is kind of stupid.

Well yeah, but I mean, anyone with any sense or awareness of gaming history knows that lol, Nintendo usually know what they are doing, and they have performed extraordinarily well each time they have had their backs to the wall. Of course, it remains to be seen if they can pull something out of the hat again this time around.

I knew they were good but holy hell that's a lot. Granted it's over a longer period of time but I thought GTA V was absolute gangbusters but to see it dwarfed by that is quite something

Nintendo actually has a lot of games that outsold GTA V. Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Party, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Bros., plus if Pokemon's sales were consolidated, then at the very least Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow.

But yeah, it just goes to show you, people need to understand they're in this for the long haul >.>

Wii Sports was a bundled game so not really a fair comparison. GTAV may have a gotten a few 100K from the PS3 bundle at the most.

Bundles still count, yo. I do admit on its own Wii Sports and GTA V would not have been a comparison at all, but one needs to remember, most people literally bought a Wii just to play Wii Sports (and later on, Fit, Play, Kart, Brawl, and NSMB). I mean, you really can't take away from its achievement.

I got about 6 of them right, not bad. I would have gotten 7, but strangely I was wrong on Sims 2 being the top for simulation.

What were the other ones you got wrong? :p

Fair enough. I know people that had never played a video game in their lives(and haven't since then) that were crazy about Wii Sports.

Yeah. I mean, they tapped into a new demographic and managed to sell to it; their failing was in their inability to retain it.

• • • Shooter: - Call of Duty: Black Ops (27 milli) / I figured it was a CoD game.
    • Racing game? - Mario Kart Wii (35 million) / Should have known it was this.
    • Action Adventure game? - Grand Theft Auto V (32.5 million) / Should have been obvious.
    • Simulation game? - Nintendogs (24 million) / Damn you Sims 2.
    • Action game? God of War III (5.1 mill) / Didn't know GoW 3 sold that much.
    • Adventure game? Myst (6 million)/ Myst certianly make sense.

Surprised at Simulation. I guessed The Sims 2 but I guess Nintendogs was bundled.

In wich genre does Minecraft fit in? Because I´m pretty sure it´s the best selling game of whatever genre it fits in.

blizzard releases stats not too long ago. They claim over 100k accounts was made before about year ago you had to buy the game to even make a account

I guess the Pokemon Red/Blue takes the cake for RPG's, and I'm assuming that combines the sales for Red and Blue, which can be questionable.

Nice list. However, there's two issues I'd raise:

Tetris and Minecraft figures appear to include mobile downloads. Without mobile downloads, Tetris sold about 43 million (35 million bundled with Game Boy and 8 million on NES) and Minecraft sold about 25 million (14 million on PC, 10 million on 360, and 1 million on PS3). Should cheap mobile downloads count?

Action games are a very broad genre, including platformers, shooters, fighters, brawlers, etc. God of War III falls under hack & slash, or more broadly, brawlers. Maybe you should rename it to one of those terms instead? It doesn't really make any sense to associate action games exclusively with brawlers.

Will be interesting to compare these numbers to what the WiiU will muster this gen, but nonetheless awesome numbers for those games for Nintedno.

i think bundled games should count because a lot of people bought wii just for wii sports. i know my parents did

And most of those people brought the Wii for Wii Sports. That's what you call a killer app.
