Indie games typically have far less reviewers and price of games weigh heavily on a review score.

Standards for a $10 game are different than for a $60 game.

Of course I knew. I've been saying for a while that most reviewers give overinflated scores to indies.

It's kinda sad too, because I love indies and think that's where you'll find most innovation these days. But when I see these insane numbers I just get mad. I've actually skipped games because I can already tell they're being "overhyped" by reviewers (Velocity 2X being the latest example).

Did you know the SW metagame last gen excluded indies of which 360 had plenty ( XBLA ) but suddenly this gen we're suppose to recognize them because it's just about all PS4 has atm?

Most of the worst Indie games don't get reviewed. But yeah, if I had a choice of only indies or only EA, Ubisoft, and Activision, I would choose the indies.

anyway the spectrum of indie games is so wide it's pretty stupid to lump them all together. the price tags are all over the place too. so all you people saying that they're not comparable to big, publisher-funded games are wrong. we can compare them, and they do still win sometimes.

there's tons of indie shit for every indie gem, I highly doubt that indie games typically score higher than traditional larger publisher/studio created titles, sure there's tons of crap there too for every good game but not nearly as much as with indie titles

I mean, I enjoyed many indie games but they never grabed me for hours and hours like most AAA games did. I spent more hours on Destiny so far (a 6/10 game going by GS) than most 9/10 indie games out there. What does that tell you?

I did noticed it. I view them as pity scores, which is why I have never taken seriously all those comments about PC gaming having more high scoring games than all the consoles combined. Because when you actually take a look at the games it's like... Meh. I rather use my time to play something else I have on my backlog from PS1, PS2 or something. There are way too many games I want to play on older consoles that I have never played instead of playing some shitty overrated indie game on PC.

Just because a game is "indie" or has a "AAA" budget doesn't guarantee it's greatest It could flop or go AAA.

Game quality is all that matters. People who treat indie games as saviors of the industry simply because they're indie are misguided. There's nothing wrong with big budget AAA games with large marketing campaigns so long as the final product is good.

When did i mention metacritic? Besides, Metacritic simply averages all the scores, they do weigh bigger sites more heavily but it doesn't make a huge difference in the final outcome.

The most tragic thing about this, is that as soon as the exclusives and the games start coming, the cows will go back to dismissing indie games.

Last gen they went on and on about multiplats and indies not counting, but this gen when there is nothing else they count again.

I've played some of the highest praised indie games i.e. Braid, Limbo, Mark of the Ninja, FEZ, Hotline Miami, Journey, Flower, Sound Shapes, Gone Home, Minecraft, Terraria, Bastion, Castle Crashers, The Swapper, Dust: An Elysium Tail, Resogun (ok this one gave me many many hours), FTL, Trine, etc, etc... wich ones did I miss?
