Did Smash Bros get a pass on its online funtionality?

I don't know about you SWers, but I still continue to get lag in my matches for both Wii U and 3DS. Not all the time of course, but still pretty frequent. Considering the game has been out for months now, did the game get a pass on this by the press? Games like Halo MCC still get pounded by critics for the online bugs. Or Is Smash Bros mostly a local multiplayer gamer and most people don't actually use the feature? I'm curious to know. Maybe you guys don't even bother playing online.

When I tried it, I wasn't impressed but it's there...it's not good though.

Smash Bros online was a pretty big disappointment to me. I can't find a lagless match anywhere. It's the only game I've ever had such consistent problems with in terms of online functionality.

3DS version of it is fine for me usually, the Wii U version is absolutely trash online. This is wireless though.

Lagless online in Smash 4 is impossible, plus you tend to get matched up against people who play really annoying characters that take advantage of the lag. Not worth it. Plus you can't choose non-FD variants in For Glory. It's like Sakurai thought the "hurr durr final destination only" meme was literal.

Massive free pass.

It's Nintendo's fault for not having a fucking ethernet port on the Wii U. Stupid move. But, you can get a usb ethernet port and it does make all the difference in the world. So if you play a lot of online with your Wii U, it's up to you to go the extra mile and get one.

3DS version works fine. Wii U version is shit. Both versions got called out on it though.

Gotta have real life friends for that. Most of the people that champion online multiplayer importance don't have those.

yea there is lag every 3 games or so...

keep in mind its 4 peoples connections at the same time.....most fighting games only involves 2....

and shooting games and racing games lag isnt as noticeable....as evidenced by mario kart and call of duty.

I have had next to no laggy matches. Out of a 100 online battles I have done (was the number I saw when I checked my stats last) the lag has only affected about 6-8 matches.

Damn... if it's still laggy to this day then there's no excuse. :/

Connection for Smash is good 70% of the time for me. I'd hardly call that an issue.

Been a long while since I played either version of Smash 4 online. Neither were perfect, but I've had more stable, fine matches than laggy ones so eh. and I also used wireless.

I was more annoyed at the fact you couldn't use any non-FD stages in For Glory than the functionality personally.

The lag wasn't too prevalent for me, though when it did occur it was pretty bad, but at least I didn't lose connection and little happens in between that time so it wasn't too bad. Though, the game probably lost an entire point in its GS score due to the online lag so in some ways, it was criticized for it.

The whole system gets a free pass for online.

No I was disappointed with Smash Wii U's online and its lag. Tis a shame since as time passes I like this game a lot more then when it came out.

3DS online was better with that.

If this is true then I honestly feel that just b/c it's Nintendo that it wasn't a big deal.

If it were anyone or anything else....it would be a a hot topic.

When I played at launch it was seamless on both versions.

I had no complaints. I don't play them much any more, but It's got to be leagues better than freakin' Brawl's Online.

I didn't have any problems with it at launch.

Since then, I've only played local multiplayer - the way the game is supposed to be played.

Well Brawl was literally broken online so it wouldn't be hard to beat that...

I can't play online smash 4, the lag is insane, happens when there is no regional or world options and all I get pitted up against are people from Japan or America. Lag is at least 1.5 seconds on my end.

My experience has been rather good with it. I've played a lot of For Glory 1 vs 1 matches on the Wii U with only a few laggy matches. The connection on a wireless online smash fight is far less laggy in general than a wired Ultra Street Fighter 4 match on PS3.

It's still far better to play local just as it is with every fighting game ever made. There will always be a a lot of problems online regardless of the game.

Nintendo has been behind in online functions and features for a long time... They are not much better than what we saw in Xbox arcade live era..

When you are with people put down the game, phone, ipad, and iunno talk to them cuz games aren't that important. To me, multiplayer online gaming is a pass time activity for the crazy stupid hrs 10pm-3am when there is like nothing to do.

I can't think of any other local multiplayer nintendo game other than the party games- Smash, mario cart, and iunno those cassual wii fit games

It's pretty bad. Smash is for local play though so it usually don't bother me.

I love Smash, but the lack of online functionality really stops me playing it as much as i would like to. Yeah, i play it with friends at get togethers and such, but that's more casual play and when i would like to take it more competitively, i find it more difficult to get into. So, i tend to play games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat a lot more, even though i'm a bigger fan of Smash.

I think that is a given.. Nintendo's online service is atrocious and really is something you expect to see in 2004.. Not 2015..

LOL Wut? i play a lot and most of my matches are pretty lag free...the unplayable matches are less frequent now.

I don't play Smash in an environment where immediate real-life strangling of my opponent after defeat is not guaranteed.

My experience is rather good/average. Anyway, it has been called out by everyone that do have it bad.

Anyone that says the online is as bad as Brawl's is absolutely lying.

your internet connection must be shxt then. it works like any other online game. hell i get massive lag in COD in etc so i really don't get this thread
