Sony casuals in a nutshell,
Considering the entire genre started with Playstation it's kinda weird to bash PS fans.
Horizon: FW will sell well and probably win some best graphic awards at the end of the year.
This fanboyism is ridiculous and childish. From popular opinion they both seem to be good games that should be experienced. Why not enjoy both? Why must one "bury" the other? I mean, its not like one becomes less enjoyable if the other is slightly better...
people should really stop with this fanboy nonsense. Its asinine and it hurts gaming

Im not talking about the PS4 version and awkward asset pop in.
Were talking about the PS5 version which was referred to as a " Masterclass"
Cope harder.

No need for me to cope with 3 gen old looking graphics on FW. I am playing it as we speak on my PS5. It's a fun little game. But I appreciate your concern.
I really don't see any relationship between them. Do you mean to say someone is choosing between one or the other? Because they are not much alike, despite being open world adventure games on some level. I'd argue most people prefer one type over the other (such that the scores are irrelevant to their choice of which to buy), and for those who like both types of games neither game will scratch the other's itch (and therefore this type of consumer will buy both)

Well good thing we take DF's word over delusional fanboys.

Cows PlayStation first party are the best in gaming narrative lays in tatters.
Though it was only sony fanboys who believe that nonsense 🤣
While I'm sure Elden Ring is a better game but you really can't trust the scores and reviews. From Soft has become a kind of brand like Rockstar and Kojima, leaving commercial and mass appeal aside. Reviewers can't and won't score their games lower for the fear of not liking the difficulty or get on the wrong side of the popular opinion.
It's a pattern that 'professional reviewers' follow for the ad money.
Might play horizon at some point if it comes to pc, not particularly hyped for it. Probably less than ten percent chance that I’ll ever touch elden ring, maybe if it lands on gamepass at some point!

I agree but if your experence is it looks like a PS2 game then your vision is 20/600. Or you are in fact a delusional fanboy.
DF also are not delusional fanboys.
Elden Ring is very niche and while I hope it sells well (all good games deserve to) I don't imagine it will put out the units that other, more approachable games do.
I am happy it is coming to PC in addition to Playstation; hope to see this more in the future.
As much as I might want to play Elden Ring because of its apparent quality, I know it is a game I probably would get frustrated with after 30 minutes and give up on because I am a filthy casual PC gamer that enjoys 10-dollar indie games [played on my 10,000-dollar rig].
Maybe for some. Lots of people are intimidated by Fromsoft games. I believe the more casual fans are not going to be interested in Elden ring regardless of hype and/or reviews. I believe both will succeed.
Horizon Forbidden West is a superb game, but I didn't buy it (huge back log) plus the fact that my entire spring gaming will be dedicated to what is quite possibly the game of the decade, Elden Ring.
HFW is still great, its just not Elden Ring.
Elden Ring will bury absolutely everything.
@howmakewood: Will either be The Last of Us: Part III or Kojima returns to Metal Gear for Metal Gear Solid 6.
Or makes Death Stranding 2 an action game
Both game will do well. Its just that Horizon will help move more units for sony than elden ring as its pretty much available to all platform (sorry nintendo). Personally im super hype with Elden Ring as its my cup of tea type of game.

U kiddin right? Not liking sony exclusives is one thing but having a vendetta against them is another, and the OP definitely has a vendetta against sony exclusives that are not Bloodborne
@vatususreturns: That’s false though. A better game can definitely make you think less of another game if it does the same things but better.
Hum, what exactly it does "the same"? They're open world and I think the comparison ends there. Combat/gameplay isnt the same, story isnt the same, world isnt the same, characters arent the same.
I played EVERY souls game to date.

Did I enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn less because of it? F*ck no.

That reasoning is asinine. Is like saying "I played the undoubtedly best game ever made so I cant enjoy gaming anymore because everything else will just not be as good". I mean, unless you're such a closed minded person that is...

Who said you can't enjoy it anymore? I said you might think less of it. There are enough similarities that both games do a lot of things that overlap. The way they tackle open-world design, the side activities, the traversal, the rewards for exploration etc.
For instance, I definitely think less of most open-world games after BOTW and TW3. Does it mean I can't enjoy them? Of course not but I don't hold many of them to the same regard and my standards have increased (or changed depending on how you look at it). Same way you can play sequels that improve upon everything but still enjoy their predecessors. Doesn't change the fact what the prequels do just isn't as great as back then.

My original point was that both seem to be good games that do things differently. If they are both enjoyable in their own ways then thats good for gaming, not bad. The rest is drivel. So saying one "buries" another because their reviews are higher and/or does their thing in a way that appeals to you more is just moronic. Nothing "buries" the other because the other will continue being good and doesnt stop being good because a better thing came along. Kids do that when they get a new more shiny toy, not adults
One thing for sure, the Switch is buried and forgotten. This is all you have. Please tell yourself that everything is fine.
@vatususreturns: Too bad for you it actually happens. Doesn’t matter how mad this makes you.
How old are you, seriously?

The irony is lost on you.😂
Pedro summoned by his master. So easy.
How old are you, seriously?
Not two weeks ago guys at EA blamed Halo Infinite for part of BF2042's success. Titan Fall 2's failure was largely attributed to it launching as the same time as other big name shooters. It happens often that big games in the same genre steal the thunder from other games and impact them negatively. Titanfall 2 was also a great game, didn't stop it from bombing.
So not sure where you're coming from with your "how old are you?".

B2042 failed because it was sh*t. Pure and simple. That and the fact it was a full paid game while Halo was F2P. Halo used to release at the same time periods as Battlefields and CODs and that didnt hurt Battlefields or CoD sales in the slightest. Everything else is PR bs to justify shareholders their failures by blaming something outside of themselves. Titanfall 2 failed because of that yeah, but that didnt take away any of its quality, no? What we are debating here is the quality of both games, not its sales. Titanfall 2 wasnt less fun because the other two sold better
"So not sure where you're coming from with your "how old are you?"."
On the fact that your response is along the lines of the "u mad" childish response instead of a proper and rational debate
