Death Stranding coming to Game Pass on August 23rd (Updated: Sony had no involvement in the deal)

So, break it down:

> Sony lends their engine for Kojima to develop a game

> Gets announced as an exclusive

> PC version announced a short time after the PS4 release

> Kojima announces partnership with Xbox

> Microsoft puts a game that uses an engine developed by one of Sony's flagship studios on Game Pass

At this point, Microsoft is just using its money to bully Sony into a corner. People were often wondering why Microsoft didn't just crush Nintendo and Sony by buying up the game industry but they're slowly doing just that. If the Activision deal closes, Sony will have to play nice with big daddy Microsoft.

Edit: It's also worth noting that Sony had no involvement in the deal.

It happened with Sony's blessings because they own the IP. It's a sh*t game which didn't sell like other Kojima's titles so Sony naturally want to get as much out of it as possible, have no reason to refuse money from GP.

Any interest I had in playing Death Stranding was gone long before it finally made its way to PC.

I almost purchased this game a bunch of times on the Epic store; glad I waited. Gamepass keeps giving freely (I use MS Rewards).

I could not get into this game. I tried to go in open minded, have the mindset of going on cool cross-country adventures in a weird landscape, but some jackass keeps nattering in your ear and the game just can't get out of its own way.

maybe that changes eventually but I never made it that far.

I'm far from being a Kojima fan but I really enjoyed this game. The writing is absurd but everything else is interesting. Perfect game for Gamepass so that more people give it a chance. Shame it isn't on console too.

It's the same situation as MLB The Show. PlayStation doesn't publish Death Stranding on PC. It's very likely that won't ever happen again since they now publish on PC themselves.

This is no doubt a power move for Game Pass. Bringing games that are associated with your main rival to your service adds marketing value that other games wouldn't. It creates "air time" on social media and makes more people aware.

I’m confused about why this is even an issue. The PC version is a 3rd party game. If MS coughs up the money, why shouldn’t it go to GamePass?

As a lad, I always wanted to be a UPS delivery boy, so Death Stranding fits the bill.
