Sure, but it was ripping on Event Horizon pretty hard

The movie Event Horizon? Dead Space the game nor the movie reminded me of Event Horizon at all. The only parallel is the hellish environment. Hell, Doom is more similar to Event Horizon than Dead Space is...

Lost contact with a space ship,

A crew is sent to investigate and discover that things have gone awry.

There are characters that are supposed to be your guide but have alternate agendas.

There is a sense of out-wordly forboding and Isolation

Self mutilation....

I wasnt saying it was a straight up rip, but it took some ques from Event Horizon in terms of plot.

I'd say there are definitely parallels. The game's creators have stated specifically that they mashed together many themes and visuals from various sci fi sources. I don't think that's a bad thing however.

It got story driven games right at the cost of making the protagonist an intergalactic errand boy with no voice or personality? I enjoyed DS1 quite a bit but come on.

Dead Space certainly did a good job of making me crap my pants.meconate
Quoted for truth. Glad I'm not alone. 1. Put on some surround sound headphones. 2. Turn the lights out. 3. Feel like you're about to die IRL.
