Cuphead is brilliant - GOTY contender, anyone?

Where to start - this game has awesome animation and visuals. The gameplay is run and gun, and it's challenging, like 90s type challenging. Music is great. Charm is there. It's really polished, and just overall fun. Kudos to MS for finally having a great game I can't get on Sony or Nintendo systems. They have given us Ori and now this. This game is a GOTY contender for sure. Don't you agree, SW?

Just going to wait for the eventual PS4/PS5 Version. I don’t mind waiting another 3 years just so I don’t have to download the stupid Xbone version.

Had the game scored higher overall, it may have a chance to be a contender. It chances of winning Game of the Year will be slim if Super Mario Oddeysee get a ten.

I have thoroughly enjoyed what I have played of Cuphead so far. It's aesthetically pleasing, like literal art. It's also challenging.

I think what probably irks most people is that it is not mechanically sophisticated nor original. It's probably better suited as a contender for Indie game of the year.

I'm loving the game so far, but there is nothing really new game mechanic-wise.

I keep forgetting that some random persons on the Internet tells me what my Game of The Year is supposed to be.

Cuphead was my most anticipated game for Xbox One (also available on PC), but I was disappointed. Love the style and I respect the developers, but Cuphead really has nothing else.

While it's a great game and I'm certainly enjoying it I wouldn't say that it's an overall GotY. I could certainly see it as an indie GotY though.

The game looks cool, but the gameplay is simply a mixture of Contra and Mega Man. There's nothing new here besides the art style.

In my opinion, maybe if d:os2, breath of the wild, total war warhammer 2, persona 5, horizon zero dawn, nioh, and nier automata weren't part of the 2017 lineup. It's a good game, but better games have been released this year. That doesn't include forza 7, Mario Odyssey, or Xenoblade chronicles 2 which are all looking great.

Either way, kudos to the developers. My hype died due to the wait, but it is a fun game from what I played at my buddies place for a few hours. I'll buy it during a holiday sale for sure.

OT - game has no chance of winning GOTY. Not in a year with BotW and Mario Odyssey.

Nope, but it could win the best 2d platformer of 2017 or best microsoft exclusive of 2017.

Nah, I wont go that far. Ori is a better game imo but this is great no doubt. It is punishingly hard at times also so get your old school mindset back if you want to play it. I am loving it!! Thank you Microsoft and God bless the United States.

Maybe it have a chance of indie game of the year, unless divinity 2 gets in that category since it's technically is a indie game...

Divinity original sin 2 is better and Super Mario odyssey will likely obliterate cuphead

Won't be my goty, but I'm about 4 hours in and really enjoying it. Any stage that's just a boss fight, or the flying stages (which are pretty much just boss fights) are excellent. Not a single dud so far on those. When they try to do a normal platforming stage, it's kinda meh, but I haven't seen too many of those yet.

Still though, really good game, better than I expected. Was really worried it would just be some mediocre game with crazy good art, but that's not the case at all. It's a very tight action game with some great bosses.

You play solo or co-op ?

I'd be willing to give co-op a try, but I doubt I'd enjoy it as much. The screen is already a bit busy with projectiles and other hazards, seems it would be a bit too distracting with another player.

Game looked like more fun to me in co-op runs from the gameplay I saw.

But it's good to hear you are having fun solo, I don't always have someone around to co-op my games with :)

Haven't played but it definitely deserves some praise for the amazing art style.

It's on my must play list. October is such a bloated month I may wait for a sale price during the holidays.

The End is Nigh and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment deserve some love in this category too.

That's why I said could and not going to; because this year has been outstanding in every aspect and by the looks of it, it will keep delivering.

Having a blast with the game as we speak , challenging and original artwork and soundtrack, controls are tight, boss battles fun, I love the dark humor and feeling in the game despite of it being cartoony, what else to ask from an indie.

Perhaps if it were a PC/PS4 title or Bait title but being on X1 is auto fail as far as GS goes so not a prayer. . :P

It runs but if you want to play it at 4K resolution with ultra PC settings and at 60 fps, the Xbox One X is where you want to be.

@Xplode_games: did you just assert that if someone wants to run a game like it would run on a PC, and they don't have an Xbox, then rather than buying it on PC the correct solution is for them to buy an Xbox?

There are no "ultra" settings though, it's a 2d game. You choose your desired resolution and that's it. The only additional video settings are overscan, brightness and color bleed.

Dude will be fine to run this game on any old pos and it'll look the same as anything else.
