CONFIRMED: Wii U Will Support Two Tablet Controllers At A Time

This topic is locked from further discussion.

Right on the back of the confirmation that the Wii U is substantilly more powerful than the current generation systems, and a true next gen system, and right after the leak of the new Wii U controller, which features clickable analog sticks and analog triggers comes another great confirmation. From the good folks at GAF who are in the know:

I double-checked to be sure.

"So far we know for sure that can be simultaneously connected 4 Wii Remote Plus, or at least 2 WiiU controllers (but not learned if they can be linked together, ie 4 Wii Remote Plus and 2 WiiU controllers at the same time)."

"We played wireless, so yes, it had battery inside." Chris1962

More and more, this is turning out to be a system I'm very interested in.

That was never an issue: you could always play with people locally, hell, up to five people were originally postulated to be supported by the Wii U at a time... the problem was, only one Wii U pad (in addition to any combination of four Wii controllers: CIassic, CIassic Pro, Wiimote+Nunchuk, Balance Board) was supported by the console. Now, at least two Wii U pads are confirmed.

Two is better than one I suppose, but I'm still bummed you can't use 4. :(

This is the news I've been waiting since E3 to hear. Slowly all my wants for the WiiU are coming true.

Wouldn't that be impossible to render? I mean, if the visuals on screen were downgraded to PSOne levels, I guess it could be technically possible...
#9 Posted by sailor232 (5276 posts) -

Even if they cost a lot, its still nice to have the option. Plus everyone can still use Wii remotes.

#10 Posted by CLOUDsea (1095 posts) -

This was never an issue. The problem is that you have to have access to another console to use it.

Not surprised at all, i heard about that a wile ago, always knew it gonna be confirmed. They did a lot of things to make the 3DS get trough its hellish situation, that's what i like about Nintendo. They go all out to make it work, learning from mistakes. Next E3, i'm gonna see the true next gen console, the prior one was a mistake.

Maybe Nintendo showed the console early so that they could get everybody's opinion on it, and perfect everything in the following year.

The Wii U console streams the feed to the Wii U tablet. Therefore if there are too many controllers, too much processing power is taken away from the main game and diverted into streaming.

I don't know, it's about not showing enough which was the mistake here. I remember the Wii U controller being the main thing (it's features and all that), i can understand why they chose that direction, but the vagueness of this caused people to think that it was just a sort of add-on (tbh, i don't know how the hell people thought that, wen news clearly said it was a new system). Appart from a bunch of devs showing their support and two tech demos, E3 was.. i wouldn't call it a mess, the more appropriate word is underwhelming.

But, i think they know, just like they knew how to fix the situation with the 3DS. They ain't ignorant, next E3 is wen we gonna see what this system is trully capable of.

#23 Posted by Virtua_Souls (267 posts) -

Well, if true, that's very good news. When it was announced last year that you could only connect one Wii U controller at a time, I was kinda disappointed. Now the question is, how much will each new tablet controller cost? Should be interesting to see (Probably not at E3 though).

what if the wii u tablet screen is disabled for mp play? Then you could just play splitscreen like ps3/360/etc... ?

Yep. Disable the tablet screen rendering and you basically have the capability for regular splitscreen gaming.

good to hear. This was very necessary for sports games.

Sure, if you think so, I'm sorry. The entire industry treats NeoGAF as a source. Most gaming websites cite NeoGAF as their source most of the times. Developers are on NeoGAF. GAF has leaked multiple games and products before their existence countless times in the past. Everyone treats GAF as legitimate. If you don't want to, that's all right. You just have to wait a little over two weeks for official confirmation, which is perfectly fine.

GS is broken, so I'll keep this short. It's not a confirmation. I would never quote Neogaf and say it's an accurate source. No one would do that here, but perhaps you. I would quote Neogaf and say odds are on the money. You are just spouting about things I knew about Neogaf long before. I was at Neogaf beforeDenis Dyack was banned. Again, not a confirmation. I've seen stuff completely wrong posted there and stuff completely right. You are overstating that forum, as always. If I were a betting man, I would say this is on the money, BUT I would NEVER state this is a CONFIRMATION as it is not.

We have no idea what Nintendo will implement in the final model of the Wii U, only Nintendo can give this confirmation. We can know that while Two Table's can be supported, Nintendo may decide to not go that route last minute...We just DO NOT KNOW.

Neogaf is NOT a confirmation, sorry. It's definitely a fine source, but you are overstating the forum.

Don't think you would need for of the tablet controllers to play SSB... Just use 4 classic controllers.

Things are getting better and better for Wii U now I'm really interested but I always get a bad feeling when things looks too good androsy for a new system lol everyone expected PS3 to be great and tanked for 1.5 years, everyone expected 3DS to be great and it tanked for half a year and everyone expected PSV to be great and its tanking till now hopefully Wii U will do well.

Like I said, you want to wait two weeks for official confirmation, that is fine, and understandable. If you don't want to treat it as that, that's fine.

then whats the point of owning a wii-u if im stuck with the lousy wii-motes? especially since then id loose my gamecube controller as an option..

for all the talk about next-gen innovation out of ninty they sure have a problem with understanding what practical in a gaming machine. i came here to kill monsters, solve puzzles and race douches named evil x around a track. i did not come here to play with crackpot ideas and half baked toys.

So basketball will play the same next gen? What happened to using the touch screen for new gameplay opportunities?
