Bloomberg: at least 3 more COD games coming to PlayStation

Although Activision Blizzard is soon set to become an Xbox company, the future of Call of Duty isn’t exclusive just yet. According to a new report, the next few annual Call of Duty releases are still set to be released on PlayStation.

Bloomberg says that before Xbox announced its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the Call of Duty company had already committed to making the next few Call of Duty games available across all platforms, including PlayStation.

According to Jason Schreier, this includes Call of Duty 2022, Call of Duty 2023, and Warzone 2 also planned for 2023.

After these, however, the future of Call of Duty outside of Xbox and Windows platforms is less clear. Xbox boss Phil Spencer tweeted last week that in a call with Sony executives he intends to “honor all existing agreements” between Activision and Sony.

When Xbox acquired ZeniMax Media, the company also reaffirmed its commitments to existing agreements and released Arkane’s Deathloop and Tango Gameworks’ upcoming Ghostwire: Tokyo as PlayStation 5 exclusives. But Bethesda’s Starfield will be an Xbox console exclusive.

Sources familiar with Activision’s deal say that, for the next two years at least, Xbox will honor its commitments to release annual Call of Duty games on PlayStation. But when the acquisition is complete by 2022, Microsoft will examine the future of the franchise.

This includes determining whether or not to maintain the annual release schedule Call of Duty has kept over the years. Activision leads have reportedly discussed spacing out new releases.

Meanwhile Sony will be charging an arm and a leg while Xbox will be giving the games away for free.

This ends up working in MS' favor because they can fight anti trust accusations for 3 years. After everyone forgets about it, they cut PS off. By then they should have everything in place where they can make enough cash off of COD without playstation.

.25c is not free. And it also depends on how long you have an active sub for and how many games you actually download. MS will also be selling this game for people not on gamepass.

I have an odd hunch Call of Duty is not going to be that huge in 2023. It's seen a decline in hype and I think the options for competitive play have broadened quite a bit. It'll be a staple for sure like the Madden games, but not gang busters.

Looked it up. I see how you could get a month or two using rewards but there's a lot going on there. It's not worth the hassle to me and I'm ok with paying the $10 bucks. Besides, I'd rather not have MS log my bing search and browser activity. They have enough data as it is lol.

They need to stop. COD, for example, doesn't need an annual release thanks to Warzone.

Question I have is whether Sony wants to keep whatever deals to buy it time before COD is off PS consoles or if whatever they are set to pay Activision (or pay in marketing if that's the deal) isn't worth it to them knowing what the future holds, if they'll offer to back out or renegotiate the terms.
