Pretty straightforward thread. I would have to say Mass Effect is my favorite so far. It just had a really good story and memorable characters. I would definately recommend reading the books if you haven't read them yet. I just finished Ascension and it was great.

Since there's only 5 poll slots I put up what I feel are the biggest WRPG's released this gen so I'm sorry if your favorite isn't up.

On a side note you can get The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut on Steam this week for $28.

I'm going to say Fallout 3 (granted, i haven't played many WRPGs this gen). Even though it was flawwed, really muddy looking and VATS was repetitive, it was still a pretty good game with some decent production values. Crap ending though

Mass Effect is probably better though, seeing as it gets so much love here, so it's probably going to be one of the first games i get when i upgrade this hunk of junk :P

Mass Effect is the best game out of that bunch, but The Witcher is the best RPG.

The Witcher beats all of those games:)

And I don't think Fable 2 is really even an RPG.

lol nobody is voting for Fable II. I thought it was a pretty good game but it just wasn't deep enough. It definitely felt like more of an action game then an RPG.

As someone who still plays and has modded their game to the extent that it barely resembles the original, I'll have to say Oblivion (even though it's more of an Action-RPG). I greatly enjoyed the original for what it was, but the user-created content took it an extra step further.

For the most "true" WRPG experience I'd say The Witcher, with it's decisions and consequences that make you actually think. Mass Effect and Fallout 3 were both enjoyable (as Action-RPGs), and I felt that Mass Effect's extremely well-told (although not original) main story was it's best point. The problem with it was that the decisions you were given amounted to nothing in the end, and Fallout 3's main story and amount of content/quests was really a big letdown in my opinion. I didn't feel that the universe in Fallout 3 had the same depth as the one created by The Elder Scrolls series.

The developers have said on the forums that the decisions in Mass Effect were really just building up to impact Mass Effect 2. The decisions you make in ME1 effect ME2 much more than ME1. That big decisions you make at the end completely shapes how the Citadel is structured in ME2. I think it's pretty ingenious.

It's a good idea (feels like a copout :P), but it would've been nice knowing that upon completion of the first game. Still a good game nonetheless.

I thought WRPG meant Western made RPG... if so than the Witcher should not be on that list. The company that made that game is from Poland.

When we're talking about RPGs, "West" means pretty much anywhere west of Japan. What "Western RPG" really means is pretty much "Not Japanese RPG".

Poland is in the "west" compared to Japan. WRPG has also become synonymous with the less-used term "CRPG" (Computer RPG), which is why most people equate certain gameplay traditions (lots of decisions, consequences that effect the main story, etc.) with WRPGs.

jRPGs and wRPGs became words to describe types of RPGs, not location where they were made. there are many jRPGs made outside japan, and now every wRPG is made in the "west". Of course there are some people who insist every RPG made in Japan is jRPG and using their logic Witcher also isn't wRPG. Buit they are few

The only ones I've played on that list are Mass Effect and Oblivion. Mass Effect is the superior game though.

The Witcher for me, never played Fable 2, Fallout 3 lacked a lot of things to call it a Fallout (not to mention it was buggy to ends earth) and Mass Effect was meh. imo

What's Mass Effect doing here? It's a third person shooter with roleplaying elements.

Mass Effect and The Witcher aren't even in the same league. I mean, The Witcher is just.... way better.

Neverwinter Nights 2 for me, it has excellent class/race/skill structure way beyond anything the games in the poll have, interesting dialogue and characters, plenty of good ol' loot, nice story and everything else that makes a good RPG, it only falls short on the technical side of things. ME, FO3 and TW I liked equally, all great.
