I've never actually played it, but since I'm here before the obligitory "Thief pwns MGS and Splinter Cell" posts, I might as well go ahead and mention Thief.
IMO Splinter cell has the best stealth elements of the ones you listed, MGS has always been more about the story.
[QUOTE="ZuluEcho14"]Explain all the games listed then? They're not stealth, most of them are shooters (MGS, Syphon Filter...)A shooter can't be stealth.

A shooter can't be stealth.
Explain all the games listed then? They're not stealth, most of them are shooters (MGS, Syphon Filter...) they are stealth shooters. They arnt pure stealth but stealth is still a big part of thier gameplay.[QUOTE="ZuluEcho14"] They're not stealth, most of them are shooters (MGS, Syphon Filter...)Silent-HalThe MGS games are shooters now? MGS3 probably has some of the deepest stealth mechanics of any game I've ever played...
True. If your playing on the easiest setting then you can shoot your way through the game but once you get into the harder difficulties you have to sneak and use your silenced weapons.
Metal Gear not stealth... C'mon, didn't it actually create stealth gameplay? The stuff people say here never ceases to amaze.

lol thats more of a puzzle game and even then you have to fight. Good game but nothing compared to Metal Gear Solid.

Lierally every level you have to be completely undetected or you get shot to pieces and then hunted down.

Please enlighten us as to what game before metal gear1, not solid, where the point of the game was to not get into fights and slip past enimies instead of shoot at them?
1987, go for it.
No. It didn't.[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"][QUOTE="bad_fur_day"]

Badfurday is the winner, im pretty positive kojima invented stealth with MG1 on the MSX.[QUOTE="ZuluEcho14"] ? You actually have to be... oh... you know... stealthy!Silent-HalJust because you can't fight back doesn't mean it has good stealth mechanics. if you used that broken logic then Silent Hill: Shattered Memories would be considered a stealth game as well.
Stealth mechanics? Last time I saw, stealth was about staying hidden and not get caught.
Also. Pictured, stealth!
[QUOTE="toast_burner"]wolfenstienZuluEcho14Castle Wolfenstein on the Apple II to be precise. i edited my post just as you posted that

Castle wolfensteinWow, 1981, fair enough, I stand corrected. Metal Gear wasnt the first.

In our ultra modern age of the internet gameplay videos are unheard of. your really making your judgements from videos?
*facepalm*
You can't judge the nerve shredding stealth of trying to slip past three patrolling genome guards and then waiting for the lift by gameplay videos.
I like SC series but MGS... is far better, as a whole game. But even in stealth mechanics only, MGS3 is the winner.
your really making your judgements from videos? What I have seen cannot be categorized as stealth, I believe I can make that judgement from gameplay videos.*facepalm*

Splinter Cell has the best stealth mechanics of them all, but most will vote for MGS because people go gaga over the story, but Splinter Cell is the better stealth game. I also like Hitman because of the style.

Yes, because that really screams out shooter.
What I have seen cannot be categorized as stealth, I believe I can make that judgement from gameplay videos.ZuluEcho14MGS can be played as a shooter but on the harder modes its very stealthy.
What makes MGS great is that it gives you more freedom then most stealth games

Not as much freedom as your option, which was a great choice. Please Log In to post.
