Hi, I have been in college for about a year and I have been saving for a handheld and I was wondering which one would better fit me. I finish my day around 4:00-7:00, normally so if I played it would be at home. I am taking even more classes this next semester, however, so I probally will have a little less time. My free time (when I am not using it to sleep) is weekday evnings and weekends. So which would be better for me? I also own a PS2 and enjoy it mostly one the weekends. I am asking this question because my brother and my sister's boyfriend have a DS and it seems cool but I don't realley know if I want one based on the games I have seen them play and have played. Most games seem (not to be mean) 2D crap.

On my PS2 I enjoy playing-

Hitman 3

007's (I own most of them)

Starwars BF 1 & 2

Time Splitters

(I do enjoy mario party on my brothers DS but I prefer his 3D DS games like brothers in arms and COD4.)

Any help would bre great thanks!

Pirating basically... The DSi upgrade, for certain reasons, makes it harder to homebrew because of its redesign.

Either or, I made more use of the PSP early on due to being able to listen to music in between classes.

It means loading your own programs onto the console. Usually emulators and similar stuff. Not popular with Nintendo.

This may change some peoples' thoughts. I am not going to bring the handheld to my classes. I only want to use it later at night and on the weekends.

Go with the DS. It's more "in", and you look like less of a dork when playing it. The PSP is less popular, and it also has less video games. Get the Nintendo DS.

Oh sure, that way he can play Cooking Momma to be even more "in"

I still say PSP TC, trust me, you won't regret that choice unless you want some of the DS games (Cooking Momma?? lol)

There are much better games on the DS than Cooking Mama. Unless you like fighters and racing games, the PSP has comparatively nothing.

1. Just because graphics are 2D doesn't mean they're crap.

2. If you're worried about graphics don't get a handheld.

True, but since he's giving an advice to follow some trend, he could've add that as well.

Anyway, I have a PSP and I don't have a single fighter/racing game and I'm really happy with the games selection. I'd wish to get my hands on Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, but I think that's it tbh.

i own both a psp and ds and have played a majority of both of their respective libraries

the ds actually has games and it's a much more durable system with better battery life, the superior handheld

theres way much more to the ds library than cooking mama or castlevania.. i haven't even played a castlevania ds game yet

just compare the last few months of ds games vs psp games and you'll notice there is more consistent quality on the ds

Cherokee_Jack

Final Fantasy Crisis Core blows away any other handheld game, even GoW

Patapon (Patapon 2 already released in Japan)

LocoRoco (LocoRoco 2 already in Japan as well)

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (Handheld GotY winner)

Secret Agent Ratchet, pretty fun game

Soon coming "Prinny is it ok for me to be the Hero??" this title alone pwns every other DS game :P

Ya. I have played COD on my brothers DS. Most DS FPS lack online (are there any with online?). The look of Socom and some of the other FPS and TPS along with their online abilites makes me want a PSP but I keep thinking that I may regret it.

Not too many FPS, no. Just CoD4 and Metroid Prime Hunters.

there's also COD: World at War on the ds, got an 8.3 on IGN

least the psp is getting resistance for that but i dunno how it will control

as for ff:crisis core , personally i think the game is terrible, get a ds if you want rpgs, it has the original ip AAAE TWEWY plus Chrono Trigger and upcoming DQ IX

not to mention the upcoming GTA ds looks pretty decent

Well, the PSP has many funtions worth the purchase, but seeing how you plan on not using them why don't you do this??

There are pages for both DS and PSP games here on GS. Check all of them (well some of them) and decide which one has the most games you're interested in.

I wouldn't spend my money on a handheld. I never liked quick-fix games (except for tetris). I like games for their depth and the ability to immerse me. I feel handhelds have always been gimped. And if you are playing at home there really is no point. I would save up for a console but even then I don't think it's worth it. You can ride your PS2 for a long time. And being in college (once in a lifetime experience) stay away from video games

PS: I wish I can follow my own advice.

There are plenty of handheld games that aren't "quick-fix" games. The DS's library of JRPGs, for example.

It is my second semester and I have a 4.0 in the UC system. College is great compared to High School and easy. Also, I live far off campus so I don't hang out with classmates much, which means free time.

Just because a game is handheld doesn't mean it's not worthy. I kinda thought like you when the PSP/DS came out as I didn't want either of those... but MGSPO came out and I was forced to change my mind.

Haven't regreted my choice so far.

eh the psp gta games seem like rehashes and don't really appeal to me at all.. personally i think the ds gta sounds better if you read about the features

http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/first-gta-ds-details-leaked-446509

http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/081118GTADS.aspx competitive and co op offline and online = win, plus takes advantage of touchscreen and mic

heh i actually had a psp before my ds, went through 4 of them until i got a slightly less defective one

now i have 2 ds lites.. kind of regret my psp ever since the gimmick wore off and games stopped coming out as frequently

I enjoy college and I enjoy learning that is why I think I am doing so well. Don't get pissed at me if you screwed up and work at McDonalds. What if I said to you not to wach TV. Believe me I rather say I played games in college than drank, smoked, and got a stranger pregnant like quite a few do (They atleast smoke drugs and drink).

I digress, no I'm in the same position as you are. 3.5 GPA UC Student into video games. I just think your money can be better spent. You don't seem to be a hardcore gaming fan, because you would have picked up a next-gen console. If you are planning to use handheld at home. Then save up for a next-gen or just explore the insanely dirt cheap PS2 Market which has a much more robust gaming library if you don't mind the "graphics"

I share my PS2 with my brothers and we all buy games. You would not believe how much games we have and I have played most of them. So that well is bone dry. And I dont want a next gen system because I don't want to drop that kind of cash (Also those games cost a lot). In addition, I do a lot of driving in Los Angeles. Since my brother has a DS it becomes apparent all the times I could use a handheld system. My PS2 dose surfice as a home system but I need a out of the house and another in the house system.

Go with the DS. It's more "in", and you look like less of a dork when playing it. The PSP is less popular, and it also has less video games. Get the Nintendo DS. majadamus

Honestly, based on the types of games you're looking for, I wouldn't recommend a handheld system at all. While the PSP has alot of shooters, the controls are very ill-equipped to handle them, making for a very frustrating experience. Also with the PSP, I know it's gotten better in the last year or so, but a huge chunk of the PSP's library are either lesser-quality ports of PS2 games, or lesser-quality off-shoots of PS2 games.

The DS is BY FAR the better handheld system (if you want an mp3 player, get an ipod), with some awesome games, but based on your preferences, you may not like many of them. No accounting for taste, but whatever.

I'd say just stick with your PS2.
