battery or non battery controller?

I prefer the internal lithium ion batteries that are rechargeable. It just makes more sense. Last gen I even bought a converter for the Wii controllers that worked well. I'm sure there is something similar for Xbox players who prefer the recharge capabilities.

I'm sick of buying batteries so I like the PS4 rechargeable...if only the charge lasted longer.

Yes. I can´t see why anyone would prefer batteries. It´s like people want to buy every week new batteries so they can use phone while i use phone and rechargable.

I have 2 battery packs for my XBox One controllers, so I don't really need to use regular AA batteries. Even when I did use the regular batteries I noticed they lasted a lot longer then the battery in the PS4 controller. The main problem with the PS4 battery is you have to charge it more time then the XB1 battery packs. Since you can't switch it out, you have to grab another controller or wait for it to recharge. Other then that, I don't see any issues with either controller when it comes to batteries.

I couldn't care less which way it is. I use rechargeable batteries, so either way is a non issue for me. I guess if I was forced to pick, I guess I would pick batteries because wtf do I do if the PS4 controller battery goes out on me? But again, a non issue for me either way.

PS4 controller easily. I think it's pretty archaic for Xbox one to still require batteries in 2014. My PS3 controller from 07 works fine till today so there is no excuse on MS' part.

You wouldn't have to buy batteries every week. You can easily go to Fry's Electronics or Toys R Us and buy a bulk of batteries for cheap. Like 60 batteries for $10-$12 and they would last you for many months. Your play sessions would be less interrupted as the batteries last a lot longer then the lithium batteries. I still rather use battery packs though as even they last longer then lithium batteries.

FYI, Wii U Pro Controller also charges with Lithium ion batteries.

I dont mind either concept... But I would have preferred the X1 having a a rechargeable battery in it. I use rechargeable on the X1, and on the 360, and dont mind having to swap them out every now and then.

Where's the option for Xbox Controller with Play & Charge kit (rechargeable battery)? I prefer that combo as I have an option to use normal AA batteries temporarily should my rechargeable battery runs out of juice.

I prefer batteries. I don't like plugging in and charging.

Well I haven't gone to the store to buy batteries in over 2 years because I have Duracell recharchables. 4 plus charger were 20 bucks. They say good for 5 years and so far great. But of course I would rather have in controller batts.

While I agree, I really think at this point its an under the table, handshake deal with American battery companies. Why else would they be using this archaic design?

The DualShock method of batteryness is less hassle. But factoring in the DS4's reported 8 hour battery life to the much better battery life of the Bone controller...maybe not. They gotta fix that shit by the time I get a PS4.

I have 10 pairs. Last time I charged them was in march. Change them out and go!

I'm a PC guy. I prefer wired and never having to mind changing or recharging anything.

All the (wireless)controllers have batteries. Some just have rechargeables built in, which I think is much more convenient.

No need battery and playing games forever without worrying that battery runs out and have to go shop and buy news.

@Netret0120: agreed. At this point no company with a staff of market analysts are ignoring what the others are doing for no reason. They probably sit and figure "go ahead call us terrible. We've got a money making deal to keep them up" sucks for us, but big business is business.

If you go to any fg tournament it is required that you have a wired controller for ANY system. So of course I prefer wired.

My ps3 contollers still work fine so no batteries for me. The only thing I ever want to have batteries is a flashlight.

Xbox. Last gen I just purchased a play and charge kit for like $20 and that was great. My PS3 battery eventually stopped being able to hold a charge and I had to drop like $40 for a new controller even though everything else worked fine. It's a no brainer on which one I liked more.

I think it's ridiculous that the Xbox One controller doesn't come with a rechargeable battery and has to be bought separately. It should be standard by now.

the lithium ion cell is a type of battery.

Either my memory is terrible, or the Wii uses/did use AA batteries.

Last gen I just preferred to play with a corded Xbox 360 controller, never had to worry about the controller cutting out or replacing the battery, since I played a lot and long periods it worked out good, I liked having the controller rumble on high too so it was never an issue. I also played my PS3 games with the controller connected, it liked to cut out a lot for some non-battery related reason when I didn't which I didn't quite understand, maybe I had a defective controller or something, but having it cord connected stopped that.

Yes, the wiimote used AA batteries.

The Wii U gamepad and pro controller do not though. The Wii U pro controller also has an insane battery life, the longest I've ever seen.

I prefer the longevity of AA batteries, but the convenience of rechargeable.

Some of the rechargeable controllers may as well not even be wireless considering you're tethered to the system so often.

Also, i prefer charger cables. If the power if running out, plug in teh cable and keep going. Not sure of the xbox has one and a rechargable battery, but if so, both are fine imo.

The DS4 is rechargeable and I'm pretty sure it comes with a USB cable too.

Xbox One comes with neither. You buy the charging kit separately. I don't know if you can play it connected by USB though, its worth a shot.

In real life an internal one but if the internal battery has to be charged too frequently I rather use rechargeable eneloops that I can swap out in a second and play on while the old ones can charge .

I find that the X1 controller lasts longer than the PS4, and I buy batteries for mad cheap... So it just depends on the life of either of them.

To those saying non-swappable rechargeable packs are superior in every way, you forget that you can't recharge and play at the same time if you sit more than a few feet away from the console (or have gone out and bought an extra long charge cable).

Personally, I still prefer wired controllers. The response times are way better on most TV sets.

yeah thats where Sony fucked up... the DS3 lasted 30 hours on a 15min charge. I heard the DS4 only last about 5 hours on a full charge.

this is a difficult question. This generation the ps4 controller battery life is terrible and xboxone battery life is extremely long. If ds4 had longer battery life than non-battery but it doesn't.

It always amuses me when I see people criticizing Microsoft for still using AA batteries because I actually view that as a positive and would be disappointed if they switched to an internal battery.

I wonder if these people ever heard of rechargable AA batteries? I always have a few spare rechargable AA batteries around for all of my devices that use AA batteries. So when my Xbox controller's battery goes out in the middle of a game, I like that I can quickly swap it out with my spare AA batteries and put the drained batteries into the recharger and get right back to my game.

But when my Playstation controller's battery runs out in the middle of a game, I have no spares and I find it a hassle to have to plug in the entire controller to charge it especially with the little tiny cable that Sony provides for it (I had to purchase a longer cable).

Plus, the Xbox controller has far better battery life.
