4X is Dan Starkey's favorite game genre. Starting with Civilization II, he's spent the past twenty years waiting for the perfect strategy game. Dan spent 48 on three games over the course of a week, and while he loved GalCivIII, he's still waiting.

Fakeboy TC aside the game looks like a decent game, but after reading about it nothing hooks me on it over other 4x space based titles. If it gets great traction with actual strategy gamers I'll pick it up down the line. For now it's a pass.

Have played about 7 hours so far, having a blast. GC2 was one of my all time fav strategy games and this new one is very good.

Also for people calling Civilization games or 4x games niche I don't really agree with that, Civilization always sells a ton.

Yeah, only the best version of GTA V never came to consoles after it released on PC...

Yep, it's still good, I'd give it an 8, but Dark Souls is better.

But really, I think that's probably the only PS4 exclusive that interests me this year.

@R3FURBISHED: 4x is a type of space game that stands for explore, expand exploit, and exterminate. It really takes two forms... Strategy game like this or sins of a solar empire. Or simulation game like X3 terrain Conflict.

It's not really comparable to many console games (I'm not disparaging or trolling console games or gamers here) but Diablo is definitely not a good comparison, out side of the viewing angle. It's a modern take on infinity engine games such as Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment but not as dedicated to those older games as Pillar's of Eternity or Wasteland 2 are.

It's not as fast paced as Diablo type games either, the combat is turn based with each of your characters (up to 4 in your party) having a set amount of action points which are used up by movement and abilities, in a similar manner to Xcom Enemy Unknown. Everything else, outside of combat, is real time. It's also pretty unforgiving should you make a couple of mistakes during a fight. The challenge is part of the fun.

It's fluid, lush and really entertaining and not scared to have a laugh. Overall a great game from an RPG genre that's been kept in a cupboard for far too long. Don't expect it to lead you along either, like all old RPG's it's left to you to work it out (for the most part).

Personally, as you've likely guessed, I'd highly recommend it to anyone with a bit a patience. A very rewarding game and a lot of fun :)

That's not true. Bloodborne's MC is 92. Out of the Park, is PC only and its MC is 93. Try again.

Infamous is a great game, and series. Not sure why it seems to get so ignored on both PS3 and PS4. Is the developer too small and unknown?

Low budget and niche, sounds like BB. Out of the Park always gets high scores, and is pretty good. Have you played it?

Anyways, what you wrote about padding is Ironic considering consoles do this quite a bit more.

• Yearly sports game (worse than sports sim) rehashes.
• Yearly CoD clone or movie-game rehashes/sequels.
• Remasters/Remakes of recent games.
• Magazines DEDICATED to MC exclusive padding, to bump up scores.

Whats sad is even with that, you guys are well below PC's game count. Especially the magazine padding.

BB is still higher budget and higher quality then about 99% of pc exclusives. The fact any of you would think of mentioning a low budget rehash with 5 reviews is laughable.

The last of Us "remastered", Final Fantasy X "HD", Resident Evil HD, DMC "Definitive", Tomb Raider "Definitive", Minecraft, Tons of PS3 Indy's that got ZERO changes..pure padding (Flower, Shovel Knight, Frez), MLB yearly rehashes, etc.

Why would it? In System Wars, a PC gen runs from the release of the first next-gen console, so we only count those games. Of course, we can discuss older games.
