After Zelda what's next for the Switch?

With virtually all 3rd party games skipping the console it looks like the system will face immediate droughts right after launch. There is a port of MK8 coming which is a 2014 game. After that there appears to be nothing notable until Mario Odyssey due out for the holidays.

Will the Switch become a dust collector after people are done with Zelda? Has Nintendo learned their lesson about software droughts?

I am looking forward to Arms, Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade 2.

I'd like to see you post more about the games you do like rather than negative criticism for the games you aren't interested in...

I'm getting Zelda and Mario Kart with my NS in late April-June time frame. After that is Mario Odyssey for Christmas.

I'm hoping Nintendo reveals a great software lineup around E3 (are they even attending this year?) including Wii-U ports like Mario Maker, New Super Mario 2, Zelda TP HD, etc. Hoping to see NS only games like Star Fox Adventures 2, New Super Mario 3, F-Zero, and Smash Bros.

Mario and then Splatoon , a new Kart and a smash then repeat most likely. Thats enough for sheep to have fun i guess .. Add some 2Ds mario/donkey/kirby/wario/luigi/paper/golf/party etc .. and there you have it.

Its another typical Nintendo cycle if you ask me .. except if Nintendo surprise us with some new AAA IP that will rival Zelda/Mario head on. Chances are slim but ... Who knows ...

Unrelated question: I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles very much. I don't have a Wii U and probably won't get one. Was Xenoblade X a direct sequel? Same world? Same combat system? Should I play it before X2 comes out?

A basic Google search would answer your question. Here is a list of notable games you can expect this year:

Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey, Arms, Fire Emblem Warriors, Dragon Quest 10 and 11, Fifa, NBA 2K, Skyrim, Rayman Legends, Yooka Laylee, Stardew Valley, Lego City Undercover, Sonic Mania, Splatoon 2, Street Fighter 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (this one I would expect a delay on).

That's a pretty solid list.

Hopefully they are putting ~75% of their first party efforts towards the Switch.

X is worth playing. There are threads that connect the two stories and shard the same lore but they are independent stories from one another.

The combat is similar, yes. Perhaps not as well executed in some areas. Overall a fine game worth playing. :) I didn't get too far into it mind you.

@svaubel: Don't blame them cows. The PS4 finally has some good exclusives after what... 3 or 4 years? They"ll soon get back to boasting about their inferiour multiplats and massively underperforming Pro while the Switch gamer gets to enjoy the best exclusives from both the console and handheld corners.

Looking at it from that viewpoint their seeming ineptitude makes perfect sense.

So true. I like my PS4 but I own like...five games for the thing. They're letting all these 2017 games go to their heads. But I guess when you're starving and you finally sit down to a great meal you'll claim it's the best thing ever.

I don't know for definite what form 3rd party support will take. I don't expect to see blockbuster 3rd party titles but there might still be engaging titles in the system.

As for the 1st party support, it already looks pretty positive for the first year. It's nicely padoes out too so as to avoid droughts.

It's the Wii U portable and game wise is going to be barren outside of the odd 3rd party game (think Just Dance) here and there.

No way in hell Xenoblade 2 (the game was never even given a release period) comes out this year when Xenoblade X took forever to release.

Pc will always dominate but the ps4 will dominate the console space. I have both. I also have the wii u emulator on my pc and the xbox app so I don't miss much.

I'm hoping the system follows in the footsteps of the 3DS in terms of support the first year lineup us lookin positive to me.

This. CEMU is not there yet, neither is the 3DS emulator (citra?).

None of this ofcourse, changes the fact that the Switch is more useful in terms of "where you can use it" than a PS4... and again, the highly likely chance of it being jailbroken adds so much value.

Yeah it's not perfect but it works fine on many games. If you don't know youtube it and you don't need a 16 thread sli/crossfire rig to run it lolz.

I honestly think the first year line up is great. Will it keep that up the second year? Dunno. The 1st party and 3rd party indies will satisfy me plenty.

That said, I think after a good solid 2 months on Zelda :D (and maybe Shovel Knight - Snipperclips), I'll probably start NiOH and The Last Guardian on PS4 (maybe Uncharted 4). I'll try to switch >__> between the Switch and the PS4. Many games but too little time. EDIT: Mario Maker on WiiU too. ugh -__-

Just because no game on Switch interest you doesn't mean it's supposed to be the case for everyone else. Get over it. Seriously.

Watch the latest improvements video from the developers themselves, posted just last week. It shows how shit the emulator is with a variety of big games. Or, actually try it for yourself.

There are some videos out there that cherry pick parts of games running well. Maybe you saw those and just assumed it's fine. It's not. Not even close. The very creators of the emulator will tell you this. It's not a functioning emulator meant to play games from beginning to end. We're years away from that. Performance is awful. Graphics glitches are rampant. Sound and various filters rarely work as intended.

It's a great effort and I hope it works out eventually. But nothing about it is "fine" right now lol.

After Zelda there is a list of games people would pretend to care about.

I'm not interested in ARMS, but they probably should have bundled it in. I watched the Switch conference in a room full of non-gamers and that's the one game that really grabbed their attention.

Yeah I think it would be fine as a pack-in game (same with 1-2 Switch) but those are not games that will sell at $60. 1 of the reasons Wii was such a success is because Wii Sports was packed-in for free.
