2023 Physical Games Spending - Nintendo >50% PS ~40% Xbox <10%

Problem is there are no generational leaps these days, it's pretty much a case of diminishing returns. The next big things when it comes to games are garbage games like PUBG, Fortnite etc or games with 10hrs of cutscenes who want to take the controller away from you to tell you a story.

At least these 2D side scrollers from the 80's are pure gameplay. Your problem is that you weren't old enough to appreciate 2D side scrollers.

Disappointing as I buy physical on Xbox ALONGSIDE a Game Pass sub.

Though good on my fellow Nintendo fans for pulling though. Switch is especially fun to collect for.

The latest figures show that unit sales of Sony 1st party physical games is stronger as compared to digital sales (an average 60 percent physical vs 40 percent digital).

The sale value of digital is higher as average sale price of digital games is more than physical games.

The business model Microsoft announced with the Xbox One, which gamers vehemently rejected a decade ago, is now being shoved down their throats.

Sorry but Sony is going down that route as well.

Not as abrupt as MS but looking at their trajectory, they are following every shitty maneuver that MS has introduced into the gaming space.

This happened with the NON JAPANESE president Jim Ryan at the helm of Sony with his western mindsent following greed and tactics of western minded MS.

Jim cased so much damage to Sony's player focused console traditions in his chase to compete with MS company focus mindset it may never be repaired.

Now Sony is STUCK having to follow the shitty trends western Jim started from devaluing their exclusives with PC ports to LOW 1st party output heavily relying on 3rd partys to supply the bulk of their "exclusive" line up.

......The all digital thing is something else I expect them at adopt as all the Xbox/PC players scream how it's the futures and Sony happily join as it means saving money on their end.

I wonder if we develop teleportation technology that's cheap and convenient and you can go anywhere in the world instantly, if we will still have people that insist on driving cars simply because they "can own their car and resell it".

Bad analogy I suppose but still...makes you wonder if even when offered an incredibly awesome alternative we will still have contrarians cutting off their noses to spite their face.

Physical for life. This is all a slippery slope. What will stop MS from making game pass the only way to play games for Xbox? At that point it will be no different from office 365.

It will go like this:

Take away physical>stop putting games on digital storefronts>subscription is the only option>advertising even on paid tiers>???

Cost, storage, convenience. Same reason I'm surprised to see new laptops or desktops with Blu-ray or DVD drives. :P

Options are great (necessary!), but the times are changn' and the writing is on the wall.

On the full-year hardware front, PS5 was the best-selling platform of the year in units and dollars. Sony's system saw its dollar sales grow as the Xbox Series X|S and Switch saw theirs drop.
