If the ps4 wins this gen, will it be the first time this has happened in recent history??

I've never been interested in what's "won" because there are different measures of it and as a gamer I'm only interested in a platform with a high volume of good games. That's why the true winner is always PC.
Not really, it's more the combination of the superior hardware and being the easiest to developer on.
It's six months or so into the gen. Jesus.
Yeah, we didn't write the PS3 off this early. It took almost 5 years for it to catch up.
@kbanna: The if was thrown in there as an excuse to make this thread six months into the generation. If it wasn't, the OP would be better.
I here you. I tried but the post count was too long. Convo with my cousin who said the most powerful hardware never won in the past and I wanted to see if that was the case.
I think historically the most powerful hardware was the most expensive. This gen is an anomaly.
It was never a matter of hardware, it was a matter of price. Usually more powerfull hardware = bigger price. That just didnt happen this gen. Price was a big factor as why the Wii won last gen, not only because it cattered to casuals. MS wanted to catter to casuals but thought the bigger price wasnt a problem...
BIG mistake
SNES won its generation.
Ok. Was not sure. I thought I remember the master system being more powerful back in the day
master cistern is from the nes gen.
mega drive was snes' opponent.

Not writing X1 off at all. Check my post history. Def NOT a PlayStation fan.
And? The Wii U could still come back and win the gen. Anything is possible after the PS3's drastic recovery.
SNES won its generation.
Ever heard of the Neo Geo AES?
Though a great system, at $650 it was never a mass market contender. Adjust its price for inflation for jaw droppage. Kind of an apples and oranges comparison.
It's a fourth generation console, regardless, and it was more powerful. My point is it's an incorrect claim when you need to use asterisks. The PS4 is the clear cut most powerful console of its gen on the other hand.

God, I hope not. Nintendo's the worst company in the world when they're on top.

And..its a question. If it won will it be the first to do so. I don't think there is ambiguity in my post. Im not saying who will, or will not, win. Calm all the way down. I got my answer. Someone said the NES

Steambox says No. Time to whip out the asterisks again?
