I disagree the greatest years in gaming were 1983 till 1992

I mean the MSX was and still is pure awesomeness with games like: Xak, Xak 2, Xak 3, YS1, YS2. YS3, Aleste, Aleste 2, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Space Manbow, Gradius, Gradius 2, Gradius 3, Salamander, Snatcher, SD-Snatcher, Zanac, Zanac-EX, Dragon Slayer, Dragon Slayer 2, Dragon Slayer 3, Dragon Slayer 4, Dragon Slayer 5, Dragon Slayer 6, Contra(aka Gryzor), Road Fighter, Magical Tree, Athletic Land, Cabbage Patch Kids, Galaga, Galaxian, Centipede, Undeadline. I could keep on going with this list forever :)

I dunno about all that but I will say that the date, 9-9-99 is forever remembered by me as a very sweeeet day in VG history though the ending came way too soon because frankly, average gamers ( casuals ) didn't no what they were missing until it was tooooo late. :?

:) The DC rocked for it's time - such a shame so many missed out. I'll never forget in the year 2000 playing PSO & NFL2K1 on-line for the first time and to this day marvel at how well it all worked at 56k modem speeds.

1998 spanked it. How many times is this brought up? Fallout 2, Starcraft, Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Half Life, Grim Fandango, etc. Also how do you do 1999 and not mention System Shock 2 and Planescape Torment?

I think you are missing the point. That's an entire decade of gaming, versus 1 year. The whole thread is discussing just which year(as in singular set of 365 1/4 days of awesomeness) was better than the rest. Gaming wise the 90s/00s were both superior to the 80s. To the point where it isn't even close.

That late 1990's period was fantastic. Hell, the entire decade was fantastic. To try and narrow it down to a "best" year, doesn't do justice to all the amazing games.

Twisted Metal 3rawr89

You severely brought down the quality of that list by mentioning that game.

None of those games can come close to what came out in 2007, 1999, or 1998.

All are sequals, some of the not even up to the standards of the series. There were so few new IPs and to many overrated games (MGS4 and GTA4).

yes..Twisted Metal 3 was mediocre, but hey...

when will you ever see a year where a Gran Turismo, an MGS, a Legend of Zelda, a Marvel Vs Capcom, a Starcraft, Baldur's Gate, Crash Bandicoot, an awesome Resident Evil, a Legend of Legaia, a Half Life game all come out at the same year? the Twisted Metal game is just a bonus. i mean, if you have a Twisted Metal game as a 'bonus' game, then wow. in 1998, we had so many amazing games. i could barely remember a year this gen that had that much firepower.

2010 is pretty good as well, since it has the God of Wars, the Gran Turismos, the Mass Effects, the Halo Reachs, the Marios, the Metroids, DOnkey Kongs, Kirbys, Goldeneyes, LittleBigPlanets, Heavy Rains, Call of Dutys, Medal of Honors, Battlefields, the Final Fantasy, the Yakuzas, etc.

pretty awesome as well, except this summer it was kinda dry.

Not true the 80's were the best for gaming. Take any year from 83 till 89 and the MSX lineup that year spanks any lineup to death with whatever year you can come up with.

Only 1 of those games are good.. but not even in my top 10. 1998 was an excellent year however. :)

Each year I get more great games to play and can play the old favorites, so: every game is a better gaming year than the last.

▲ More like 1997, IMO. A lot of great games came out then. ▲

I would say 1996-2000 were the best years of gaming for me. For both PC and console. I would really like a new Chrono and Legend of Dragoon game. Those franchises have been abandoned and it makes me sad.
