Flaws with this theory: netbooks cost 100 bucks are plentiful
pcs that are new can be WAY cheaper than 180
just using an old computer is good enough, so in fact it's free
How much are you getting paid for this crap by Onlive? And you use the left over cash to upgrade your... oh wait.

yes and you will need to pay for some seriously fast internet connection. At least 10mb/s with no bandwidth caps. With games getting larger and larger I don't know how you're going to pull that off with all the crappy ISP's out there.

I don't think OnLive is as terrible of an idea as everyone is making it out to be. Is it the future? Very possible, we all said the Wii was ridiculous and motion controls will never take off, now look at Playstation and Xbox with their own ideas, I don't think motion controls will Ever take over as the standard, but offered as an alternative or just for specific games.
I think OnLive is a really cool idea, but it's going to take a decent amount of time until it actually can be played with little to no lag, and more games are available, and it can actually run every game at max settings. But it might take a long Long time, seeing as Digital Distribution hasn't even become a standard yet, and I would imagine that will become standard before streaming will. And even if Digital Distro. and/or OnLive become standards, there will still be physical copies available, much like how DVD copies of movies are being sold along side of the growing Blu Ray format. But who knows?
[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"] more like 25fps. B) Onlive cant run its current games at any respectable graphical setitng. RikusakiJust Cause 2 and a few others are running at the maximum possible settings. Also, most of the games run at a solid 50+ FPS. It's your internet connection that's causing the "framerate drops."
And yet it looks worse than the console version and makes my eyes bleed with it's pixelation and blurriness.

My 30mb connection is to slow?
*checks onlive Just Cause 2 demo, def not Max settings, sorry, definatly not even 30fps, sorry.
Decided to try out onlive again, and to me it was just as bad as before. Played UT3 and it looked terrible, not even close to the PS3 version, and you can definitely feel the input lag here with a fast paced shooter like unreal. And when I moved the image would become even more blurry, kinda like a video when its been highly compressed. As for this picture here I thought fraps would have captured it at its native 720p, but I guess it didnt, but still it looked bad regardless.
It's not all about bandwidth. It's how fast it get there. ;)My 30mb connection is to slow?

Looks nothing like what I'm getting on my end. Come back when you have Verizon FiOS.Got to love that Onlive quality.

This happens a lot. The quality changes from blurry to downright eye bleeding.
Try taking a screenshot of you quickly turning right or left. It will be a blurred mess.
BTW that was from digital foundry which had a good connection and speed.
Is OnLive not a legitimate platform for discussion in System Wars? :? technically no.. its not a system... its a program not unlike steam.... cept with steam ur games u buy dont expire...[QUOTE="painguy1"]
Riku u need to stop. seriously. its getting anoying.Rikusaki

Well then that'sOnlive not delivering, not myfault.
Look at the date of the article. The infrastructure and hardware has already improved greatly since then. And it will continue to do so.[QUOTE="Hakkai007"] that was from digital foundry which had a good connection and speed.

Look at the guys image above.
Also Onlive will probably never get image quality comparable to a game actually being played on your PC.
You can quote me if you want.
Maybe in 50 years you can laugh at me when you get 10gb per sec connection with a 500tb a month bandwidth.
I probably won't care by then because 1080P will be long surpassed.
I might be dead too.

[QUOTE="shinrabanshou"]Read that a long time ago... Doesn't mean anything when the infrastructure and hardware continuously improves. It's from July 9th, Riku. I doubt three months has changed much significantly, besides pricing, so it means quite a bit.Meh, Digital Foundry vs Onlive.
Image quality.
Framerates.
Rikusaki
As it stands I highly doubt it could run Crysis at anywhere near max settings with a steady 60 fps framerate.

First of all, he just has a crappy connection. That looks downright horrible. Second, OnLive's hardware is constantly improving. In some ways, it has already surpassed the PS3 and 360 in terms of visuals (shading, lighting, etc.).Look at the guys image above.

Am i going to need to do this every time there is an onlive thread?

When you have something around a 500mb/sec connection maybe then you can equal console quality.
But that would use around 225 GB (not gb) in one hour.
