It's already damning to see Bolsonaro do so well, but the clips of his homophobia around Stephen Fry and Ellen Page. Yikes! Hoping Brazil makes a turn around on him, but I doubt it.

You're meeting your monthly quota of John Oliver videos :O
Last time I made a John Oliver thread was in late August. Barely posted a thing from him in September.
Anyways @nintendoboy16 Do you get some kind of monetary compensation for all this linkage?
Did certain posters who post Infowars content frequently get paid by Alex Jones?

No idea, i do not post anything or have ever posted anything from the lunatic that is Jones.
@Jacanuk: Then how can you even judge someone is paid off because of a frequent source? Not everything I post is from Oliver.

Judge? I was asking you a question since it seems like you are getting some kind of compensation for posting it that many times.
Since no one, not even other on your side cares about what a comedy show host has to say about anything.
@n64dd: DD, the last time I had an opinion without Oliver (which I have plenty of) on here, you either brush it aside, or say I was Better off WITH an Oliver piece. Which is it? Besides, I've talked Bolsanaro without him, and where were you when I said a left leaning political party in Ireland had little room to protest Trump given their terrorist ties, which has me slammed by LJ?
@Jacanuk: You "ask" in a disparaging way. Besides, I only post a thread with his content (or any source for that matter) if it's subjects worth talking about.
By this logic, my right-wing uncle was probably paid off by Alex Jones, Ann Coulter, and Dinesh D'Sousza by what he posts on his social media.

Are you comparing Oliver to those nuts? That's not exactly a nice thing to do Oliver.
@n64dd: Anyone getting their news from late night hosts need their priorities in check. Reason why Brazil went right is due to corruption from the left caused by Lula with all the money laundering schemes he's done, yet Nintendo boy wouldn't understand what's really going on there unless it comes from schills like John Oliver

Did not ask in any special kind of way, how you receive it is your problem.
I was just wondering because you post him a lot and rarely post your own thoughts and ideas.
@Jacanuk: Again, I've had my views on Bolsanaro before this video. Beck, I even made a thread on his attempted assassination.
@FireEmblem_Man: Except I also get news from...
NPR
AP
Salt Lake Tribune
Raw Story
The Hill
ACLU
Reuters
And I'm pretty sure I've learned several events late night hosts don't cover, like the regressive LDS church and their influence on Utah politics, but I guess it's to keep Utah 'uncucked' or whatever.
@nintendoboy16: oooh scary! Has the LDS Church influenced elections, bombed anyone or destroyed anything that don't follow their ways? No one cares of Utah, unless they start going rogue
Duterte 2.0.
Duterte maybe a brutal leader, but the Philippines economy continues to grow. I still don't approve of his methods, but they're climbing out of poverty. Yet I'm full aware they're in a bind now and seeking help. Sooner or later he'll come crawling back to the US for help.

why should a growing economy excuse terrible actions?

Because people over at the Philippines out there actually love him. especially when it was his leadership that thwarted the ISIS uprising. No way for him to lose, unless people see him failing the growth that's happening.

not sure why that would make horrible actions okay

"Has the LDS Church influenced elections?" Yes, currently, they're trying to manipulate Proposition 2, which would allow Medical Marijuana in Utah.
"Has the LDS Church bombed anyone or destroyed anything that don't follow their ways?" First off, are you referring to Muslim terrorists with those questions? Because they ain't the only ones. Do you also hate Catholics after the damage done by these "leftists" and their attacks on a US ally (which killed even our own)? I sure as hell didn't want their political wing to talk Trump when he planned to go their homeland (and that was cancelled, thank god). But I digress...
Second off, back to the question at hand. There are a bunch of crimes linking back to people in the church. Just to start, there are tons of abuse scandals, and even violent records (just not bombings) caused by members. Just like any other religion, really.
"No one cares of Utah, unless they start going rogue" Because of that state's historically strong ties to the Republican Party? Some of us long desire a change in Utah.
I haven't seen the particular episode yet, or know that much about situation in Brazil. However isn't it very much the result of corruption?
So fighting corruption with MORE corruption?
@nintendoboy16: Well, it looks like Brazil isn't happy with John Oliver's take on Brazil's politics
For better understanding, it's actually 88K dislikes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsZ3p9gOkpY
Okay? He's had a similar reaction before when he spoke ill of Duterte (which was uploaded by a third party). What happens when there's a cult of personality.
Besides, Bolsanaro is still a case of fight corruption with corruption. Because that always works. /sarcasm
And let's further add more to Bolsonaro being a climate change denying psycho shortly after the UN gave the grim news.

The people aren't happy and someone will use it to further their own goals. He just doesn't have to appear corrupt... Or simply less corrupt than the competition.
Easy to do so if you can control the flow of information =/
The video is not available?
I was able to watch it (again) just now over here. Hmm...
Don´t think SO is in the US and in a country where the rights to that program are sold to someone who does not like it is free on youtube.
Don't know much about Brazil's history but I heard democracy is a recent new concept there. They are rooting for this guy because they don't want to end up as Venezuela or Cuba. So, I'm assuming this guy is not a socialist or communist.
Basically, all Brazil needs is a new form of government style. Capitalism seems their best choice of action.

Capitalism is not a style of government.
Whatever Brazil is doing now isn't working, so people will inadvertently try something they're familiar with that has worked in the past.
With that comes traditionalism and nationalism to have a society function like one orgasm but at the same time giving up on individualism.

Or listen to the people and hear them why they're swinging right?
@FireEmblem_Man: Ironic that he says that they won't vote corrupt politicians, when that's exactly what Bolsanaro is. When he says he backs a military dictatorship, he's corrupt. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. You can bet that if the mainland Chinese caught wind of Oliver's piece on Xi Jinping, they'd react the same as Bolsanaro and Duterte supporters did on him.
And I find it sad that Bolsanaro supporters find NOTHING wrong with killing of anyone dubbed a criminal. Did they not look up past events of the world where similar things have happened and got backlash for it? Tiananmen Square? Bloody Sunday (what U2 named their famous song after, which is either anti-war or pro-IRA, depending on who you ask) in Northern Ireland, where several young and unarmed Northern Irish civilians were shot dead by British Paratroopers (under a right-wing governed Britain under Margaret Thatcher) during a protest and further instigated the cause of left-wing nationalists (again, the IRA, which should've painted Catholicism and Republicanism under the same negative lights Islam and Socialism are painted under, but somehow didn't)?

*sigh* You should really stop talking about the troubles in Ireland. You never know what the cause actually is.

Besides centuries long standing anti-semitism between Catholics and Protestants? Brits and Irish? And British history of oppression of countries like Ireland and the US, as well as their current occupation of the North? Different causes aside, extremist actions and politics instigate terrorism. That was my point. It happened in the Middle East due to US actions, it's happening in China with the Uyghur, and I wouldn't be surprised if terrorism sparked hotter in Brazil with Bolsanaro (like that stabbing).
History. Repeats. Itself. That's also my point.

Yeah you don't know then. It's about land ownership. The Irish were displaced by the British. Land taken and given no political say in their country. But keep looking at superficial differences between the two sides and think you know what's going on.

So... occupation then? That's land ownership. And the fact that the conflict had it's roots from other points in history.

The conflict was about the Brits taking land from the Irish. And removing their voice. It didn't help when the potato failed and the Brits did nothing to help the famine. It has never been an ideological conflict which you continue to assume.

Which is again, how the Brits OCCUPIED Northern Ireland and the DIFFERENT POINTS OF HISTORY. So, I do know. And to say it was never an ideological conflict is kind of hard to believe when Catholics and Protestants, as well as Republicans and Unionists going at each other at the time was also a notable part of it.
Look, I've no further desire to talk about the different causes, only to make a point of how terrorism is instigated. That's it.

Actually it comes down to the Brits and the Irish. They just happened to be different religions. It was not a religious conflict. Hell if we're going down that route then if you and a buddy get drunk and have a bar fight are we going to bring religion into it? Also republicans and unionists is just another word for Irish and Brits....so I'm not sure why you are going there. Its very simplistic to look at it the way you paint it.
Would you like someone to move into your house and take over? Would it become a conflict between the home owner and an invader or would it be over religion or your favorite colors being different?
