What games pushed the limits of the PlayStation 1?

There have been many, MANY topics asking this question. But when it comes down to it, people got some amazing things to come out of the PlayStation. But what games pushed the limits? I am not just looking for the game with the highest budget, I am looking for games that pushed and reworked the power of the PlayStation.

Rayman 2 maybe? Legend of Dragoon. Crash Bandicoot.

If you want superior games in terms of visuals, I can only think of Final Fantasy 7 ,Parasite Eve 2, Dino Crisis 2, Syphon Filter 3, Alone in The Dark: The New Nightmare.

FF7 had the most stunning visuals.

Gran Turismo 1+2 both pushed the PS pretty hard, 2 more so than the first. I remember reading about how PD had a performance anaylser tool they used when developing the games so they knew how much more they push the console.

Crash Bandicoot was talked about a lot back then, I got it just bc of the gfx.

gran turismo was the first game that made me soo impressed. i remembered saying that graphics will never get more realistic than this. lol i was sooo wrong. i was such a stupid 15 year old

@janeswife: I honestly have to disagree with that. For the time it was released, they definitely were phenomenal. But games like FF8 and 9, Metal Gear Solid, the Crash Bandicoot games, and several other late entry PS1 games pushed 32-bit visuals further. FF7 just looks blocky and outdated against the games I mentioned.

Diablo 1 and Hexen were 2 playstation one games that really taxed the PS1. Both games will easily kill off a PSone memory card in one shot. Both games were PC ports that did take some doing to port over to the PS1. Hexen eats a whole memory card. Diablo eats 12 out of 15 blocks. Back in the day memory cards were expensive and have 1 game eat up a memory card was a big deal at the time.
