sony needs to bring out trophies fast

i don't see how achivements make anything better. Its sorta cool but really not that cool. Simpsons did it best. Press the start button. Congratulations you got an achivement.

i agree with you. for example, I'm not particularally excited for home, i probably won't even use it. But, if other people do want home and will use it. Great, it helps serve a larger audience and makes ps3 maybe a bit better then what it was.

point is, the more options we have, potentially, the better it'll be.

All you people who say achievements are worthless are just PS3 fanboys. I love my PS3, but the damn trophy system isn't gonna be any different. You do a certain thing, you get a shiny gold trophy, WHOOPY DOOPY DOO!

Personally though, the achievements have me getting most games for 360, because they add replay value, but to those of you saying trophies are all important and achievements are crap, you really need to just... gah, forget it, I bet I haven't even convinced one of you guys!

I play games to have fun, not to show everyone that I'm really good at them. Sony can bring trophies whenever they want or not all as far as I'm concerned.espoac

(do you see that katana on the left? :lol: /sarcasm) seriously though, i dont get why people hate/talk trash about achievements. theyre one more thing you can do with the game. and if youre like me, and will do anything and everything possiblein thegame (if i really like the game), then achievements are a way of giving myself a pat on the back for doing something reallly REALLY difficult (a cookie isnt so bad once in a while is it?) or doing something really stupid but inventive. i really dont know what you guys are arguing about... but as for acheivements/trophies, me likey.

That's a good idea actually, more choice is usually better imo. But I find the argument fascinating that others brought up. That Trophies or any sort of achievement is worthless because old games didn't have that feature.

When in reality any game you play is based upon arbitrary points earned while completing fairly repetitive tasks in order to move along a story arch.

High Scores/stats and leader boards have also been around as long as gaming has, with pinball and early arcades etc...

Trophies and achievements are just those things repackaged in shiny new plastic for us to unwrap.

I don't think we need it at all, I've been playinggames since the NES days so I can definetly live without them, I don't need to prove anything to people that I'm good at what I do.

But

With the idea of trophies, it would be cool to see them on display when Home comes out, I will honestly say that I have no problem with that, it may not be needed, but in some sense, it would be a cool feature.

^^ Exactly. All multiplats that I've played had the same "achievements" in them on the PS3, they just don't apply toward a permanent score. That has never bothered me, and it has never stopped me from shooting for special tasks in a game until I got enough of the game to put it down.

The gamer rep thing on 360 is pretty nice, but... you have to pay for it. *snicker*

imo, they are pointless, all the 360 fanboys make a huge deal out of it, i would like them, but no big deal.

Ok, listen. I can't help but get the feeling that everyone in here bashing Achievements are kinda missing the point of them. They are not amazing and they are not the greatest thing ever and anyone who claims them to be needs more to do wqith their time. They are simply what their name says: a sign that you have achieved something. I didn't give a crap about them for a long time either but after a while you get to like them. They are just a little nod from the game that you get when you go above and beyond and that is nice to have a record of. It's the same idea as leaderboards, or the same kind of gratification anyway.

The same thing goes for trophies, the only differance is trophies have little rendered shapes whereas achievements build up a little reputation attched to your name that your friends can look at. I browse my friends profiles sometimes and check out what games they have and how interested they are in them when I'm waiting for a game or just passing moments here and there. They are nothing earth shattering but they increase the motivation to go as far as you can because you will be recognised for it in a small way. How many of you can honestly say that you haven't bragged about doing something really cool or hard in a game you really like? And wouldn't it be nice to have something to show for it?

People play NBA Live 06(Worst Basketball Sim EVER) just so thenk can get some points. You don't have to make a great game... make a crappy game and put easy acheivements and give alot of points for them and your game will sell!
