I mean I cant Really say that I got my PS3 the day it came out, but I bought this 80GB model on 2006 or 2007, and ever since I haven't had one problem with it, HECK! even my controller survived too.

So, I wanted to know, Has your PS3 Stood strong since day one?

No, I have a 20gb model and a 60gb model that still work great without ever a problem. I have 2 brother in laws with 60gb models that still work fine and always have. Both of these models came out before the 80gb and 40gb models.

People with PS3s dying on them are either doing things they shouldn't do with them, not keeping the vents clean enough or not letting enough ventilation around them. All my PS3s and everyone I know have always kept their PS3s out in the complete open, never in a entertainment center where one side or the other is blocked with a door or anything else.

holy excrement!

I don't clean the vents, is that necessary to keep your system healthy?

I usually clean my system once every 2 weeks with those alcohol wipes, does that count?:(

I don't know about that. My 60gb is dead and gone and it was out in the open, and I took good care of it. The thing is though I didn't get the YLOD. My PS3 stopped reading BD and eventually stopped reading everything. After that it just became a paper weight. Now I have slim.

I bought a 20GB back in February of 2007 and popped a 120GB HDD in it. Never had one issue and am not anticipating any.

I have a 40gb from release that still works. The thing is, I recognize that like any piece of equipment, it requires some maintenance if you want it to work the way it did when you bought it. So once the warranty expired, I opened up my PS3, cleaned the vents, applied new compound and cleaned the blu-ray lens. I'm sure had I not done these things, it would be dead like so many of the other PS3 releases.

I have one of the original 80gb, and it's still working. And I intend to do everything I can to make it last. I enjoy the ps2 backward compatibility. I have tons of ps2 games, and no ps2. And I don't want to have to buy 2 consoles to replace only one.

This, i've never had a console die on me, my original PS3 still going strong and i bought it like 2 months after launch probably not even that long... I even knew to keep it cool before they started dying, the heat on the vents were enough to keep someone standing next to it warm so i always put maybe 2 minutes a week into making sure it was cool and clean...

if you play games offline, and then get a psn account, will these trophies you unlocked when you never had a psn account still be linked to your psn account?

I did the exact same thing minus the bluray lens. I noticed my fans kicking on, not to full blast but pretty loud regaurdless, so i took the precautionary measures with my 60G, which i purchase after the first price drop, and did the exact same things you describe. Now it runs just like brand new and stays quite i can barely hear it. I also got a slim which i now use as my primary so my orginal 60 should last forever.

What actually shocks the hell outta me is my buddies Motorstorm bundled 80G. He keeps that sucker on a shelf under his TV. It's not completely congested in there but it's by no means enough space where i believe it can breathe properly. On top of that, last time i saw his system, (he keeps it in the vertical postion btw) i was inspecting the vents and they are completely covered in dust. Like heavily caked on there!! I've asked him several times has he ever had any problems with it and he says it's been running fine. I still suggested that he cleans it out but i doubt he listened. Oh well, i tried to warn him but it's been like that for awhile now and it's running like a swiss watch.

I've got 40 model way back in 2008 and i've never had any major problems or i've had minor problems such as freezing during online play in call of duty world at war and call of duty 4 but i think it was the games not the systems.

I still consider mysystem a new one and yes, it's gonna last with me fora very long time.

FYI folks as I have seen 3-4 people mention their 40GB launch systems. There was only a 20GB and 60GB at launch.

I've got a 20GB launch system currently going strong with a couple of quirks, updated to 250GB.

I have aPlaystation 3 120gig slimline. Also have a Playstation 3 60giger CECHA01 Made in Feb 2007. I didn't get my PS3 phat at launch. But it is one of the last ones made before Sony pulled the plug on the 60gig PS3. I never had a problem with my Playstation 3's. My first was the "best model" at not overheating. and getting the Yellow light of doom. The PS340 giger. I don't know if that is true. But I've always had no problems with any Playstation 3.

So I have a surviving PS3 60Giger (Not a launch model) but it hasn't died on me. Is Dying PS3's caused by if you lay them flat or place them vertical? Or if you cram the PS3 into an entertainment center?

well its probably because its not a launchmodel that it stayed strong... i got the actual 60 gig launchmodel (eu) and it died on me after a year or two..still had cod5 in it too..got a 160 gig model the day after and cod5 again too.. and now i recently got a 320 gig slim (the move pack) too for downstairs..
