do all the games even support in game music? the blog said not all games are supported until they are patched. SiKh22
I hope all of you that are so excited to play your own music understand that it's on a game-by-game basis. The developer has to enable custom soundtracks.
It doesn't work the way any of us wanted it to work. We wanted to simply bring up the XMB in-game (any game), select a track and get back to the game while our music plays.
It doesn't work that way.
The developer has to enable custom soundtracks. This means that you'll have to wait and see if developers patch their current games, and hope that developers enable custom soundtracks on their games that have yet to ship.
While custom soundtracks isn't something I really care about, lots of people do. I feel the way Sony handled this was really lame, and frankly changes nothing. Developers could have done that themselves if they wanted to.
Perhaps it's easier to do it now, but still, why leave it up to the developers? This feature should have been in the hands of the users, not the developers.
Dumb, I know, but that's the way Sony handled it.

Maybe it's the way they found to get around the rights microsoft has on in game music?
Well, it depends on which of my games will suppost custom soundtracks...

Hate to put limewire songs on my ps3 just yet maybe I will wait awhile to do so seeing as I don't buy cds and I'm cautious with my ps3. Just not sure how safe it is?
You know I been thinking about this and what would be really nice is if sony came out with their own radio stations for this. Something like xm radio.
none. in game music is usless for me. i turn all the game music off and crank the effects so i can get the full game entertainment. if i have music on it takes away from the game.
Like the first time i could controll snake in MGS4 i imedatly went to the audio settings and muted the crap music. (ok so the music in MGS4 was good but i dont want it playing while i play the game)
To all the people saying that in-game music will be game specific: I've yet to see any proof of this and the guy demonstrating this feature on the playstation blog did not mention it either.Toast_Boy
The proof is everywhere.

"You also will not be able to use music from your hard drive, unless the game is specifically programed to take advantage of the feature. Unfortunately, no games will be able to take advantage of in-game custom soundtracks when the firmware update goes live. (However, future games and game patches can enable this feature. It depends on whether or not the developer chooses to include it in their game.)"
Taken from IGN.com....
"Along with being able to manipulate your Friends list, possibly the coolest ability with the in-game XMB access is the ability to play your own music. Yes, we're talking custom soundtracks here. Note that this ability has to be added to a game to enable it, so it won't work with existing stuff unless the games are patched, but it's an option that will likely hit many upcoming titles."
If you want proof in audio/video form, watch Gamespot's 2.40 preview.
