I would like to know most gamers' opinions on this. I thought about that after finishing Resistance 3, which I thought was one of the best FPS campaign I've played in a least a year. Not up to par with the likes of Modern Warfare (the first, the second was rubbish) or Bioshock (Best of the gen for me), but still not very far from the top.

What do you guys (and gals) think?

EDIT : I've considered Deus Ex and Borderlands, both of which I love, but I say they are more RPGs than FPSs, that's why I didn't put them up there.

I totally forgot Half-Life 2, my bad, which would be second on my list after Bioshock.

I haven't played many FPS games, but the Killzone 2 one was just spectacular. It was one of the best campaigns I have played, not just in the FPS genre.

Resistance 3 puts up a really strong fight, and in terms of exclusives I think it might win, but Killzone 3 is also a really strong contender.

Crysis 2 blew me away with its graphics, soundtrack and the campaign the first level was probably one of the best ive seen, Bioshock was very good to i loved the art style of it and everthing.

Bioshock, though I prefer the 2nd one in regards to the main antagonist.

Surprisingly, Crysis 2 has a really enjoyable sp campaign in it (plus, I'd argue the graphics are in a way better than KZ since it showcases a more diverse array of settings and actually has day time lighting effects, which isn't a fault of KZ it's just a different art direction).

Resistance 3 is at the top surprisingly. I'd follow it with Bioshock and Singularity.

Slashkice

Why-So, if I may ask? Did you not expect it to be one of the better FPS prior to playing it? I love the series specifically for the story mode, and so to that end I expect to enjoy R3 (even though the MP is tripe). In what way(s) did you expect it to fall through? Spoiler-free, if you please...

:D

... And though I know it is one, I'm so hesitant to call "BioShock" an FPS... That almost belittles the game for what it actually is, if that makes sense.

I seriously have to give Bioshock a try. Best FPS S-campaign for me was MW1. That was some crazy **** and also when it wasn't so overused and felt like a cliched over the top action.

Crysis 2 has a pretty good single player, so does Killzone 3. If you have a great computer though, you may as well get Crysis 2 for the PC instead. Wait for Battlefield 3 maybe, it is said to have a pretty extensive campaign.

Both bioshocks, resistance 2 not played 3 yet, Killzone. Two from the past Syphon filter and Timesplitters 2, can't believe there hasn't been any made for ps3 especially Timesplitters 2 with how online gaming has taken off, split screen multiplayer was top.

Half Life 2 games, Resistance series (campaign in the third is fantastic in my opinion), Killzone 3 (except for the ending), and most recently Crysis 1. Seriously: Crysis 1 is awesome, coming from someone who didn't really like Crysis 2 at all. Oh, and COD4. I still can't get over how blown my mind was during that game, especially the sniper mission. ::runs off to play COD4::

Got to go with BioShock. I understand the "belittling" it by calling it an FPS comment. The original Deus Ex for PC is my favorite FPS of all time, and it still feels wrong to call it an FPS.

I don't like the campaigns of recently released FPS(ers).

My favorite is still Call of Duty: World at War

Bioshock by a mile Honourable mentions for the Killzone series, MW1 (MW2 had an awful, virtually incomprehensible story IMO) and Borderlands off the top of my head

Terrencec06

I don't know if I'd necessarily call you crazy. I enjoyed the campaign of MoH a lot, and generally defend it. There were just a few issues with it that I didn't care for (headshot indicators really broke the immersion for me and made it more arcade-y, it was a little short for my tastes, and the story didn't really pick up in a meaningful way for me). Other than that I enjoyed the combat and pacing of the campaign, and often defend it as a better game than most of my friends give credit. Hopefully they'll improve on these things for the (inevitable) sequel, I think this reboot has a lot of potential.

Also, this leaves multiplayer completely out of the question, that's a topic I've beaten to death about MoH's online identity complex :P

It pains me to say it because I hate the stagnation of the series, but Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is probably the best single player campaign this generation. I can understand where people will give some love to Crysis 2 as well. Although it's not a FPS and is more along the lines of a third person shooter, Vanquish was utterly brilliant!

The MoH reboot was solid. I played through it twice. The multiplayer wasn't entirely bad either.

Bioshock by far, I have Bioshock 2 also. And I've completed Bioshock 7 times. One of the best games ever.
