It should last you a very long time! ofcourse their are exceptions, i mean it is a machine, but the number of PS3's that have problems is very slim.

the ps3 has a 0.2 failure rate so you should be ok..also it's a console that should last you for a very long time (like 7 years before it breaks) if you take good care of it

The PS3 seems to be quality so far. I'm on my 3rd 360 and 1st PS3. I will say I use my 360 about 100 times more though and MS has been very good with replacing my 360 when it dies.

If it's kept in a well ventilated spot, you could play for a day straight and it wouldn't overheat. You just need to be sure to take care of it and it should last for a LONG time.

I have never had the overheating problem and I played for 12 hours once, maybe I shoul try a 24 hour marathon. BTW my ps3 is well ventilated, vertically, but my room is always hot.

I've never had an overheating problem and that's after a few 10hr marathons. But I guess if you play in a hot room it may overheat like all machines.

There is always the possibility that your PS3 will break, but it isn't as likely to happen as it is to a 360.

Overheat is a bit of a strong word here. Its not like they are shutting off with a cool-down LED that let you know when you can play again lol. If you have any experience with gaming PC's and the heat a high-end graphics card can create, then that is what you are dealing with on the PS3. You will feel some pretty warm air coming out the back after playing for a while. It doesnt mean you have to quit playing if you dont want to. I have had my 60GB since January 2007, and have played it...a LOT. lol I have never had a heating problem. The biggest thing is you need to make sure it has plenty of air space around it. Dont put it in an entertainment center like you would a DVD player or something. I have mine sitting out on top of my subwoofer for my surround system. It is not enclosed and sits at least a foot from the wall. Also, keep it dusted...once a week or so will do.

a ps3's a lot less likely to break than a 360, but dont count out the slight possibility of it actually happening.

if you have it in a ventalated place and keep it clean it should never over heat. the new 40gig moddles have the newer chip wich genarates less heat. i have played mine for many hours at a time with no over heat as well as blue ray movies. i have noticed that thay will frezze up every now and then forceing you to reboot the system. mine has done it a few times and my friends have had the same thing happen. buy ypur self a 40g moddle and then upgarde the HDD. unless you realy want to play ps2 games on it that is.

Only problem is that the sony's CS is useless. Not that you'd need to call them regarding the ps3 it's a tough mofo. GL with w/e you decide.

No, reliability is one of the PS3's strong suits. It's why I re-bought all of my cross-platform games on PS3.

how do you know if your system is overheating?

i know if my cisco router is overheating by entering a command and checking the temperature. when it gets too hot, it shuts off.

so i ask how are you guys checking the temperature of your ps3 and whats the operating temp and whats considered overheating?

with that said i do recognize the ps3 gets hot as balls. mines pushes out enough hot air to warm my room, well not quite but i like to keep my feet warm by placing them on it. still being running hot and overheating are 2 different things.

I've played for 16 hours straight and mine didn't overheat. It will heat up your room after a while so I have a fan in my room.

Go for it. the 360 is garbage anyway. there has been no problems at all with my PS3 so far and im enjoying it alot. it has froze on me only once and is the most durable sytem next to the Wii. Most 360 games are shared between PS3 and 360 so i dont see y u shouldnt do it. plus ps3 has better exclusives in my opinion and also a free online service.

I have a friend he did not shut down PS3 for 7 months straightly, and finally, it is overheat and broken, but it is truth PS3 is more durable than 360.In addition, PS3 will release more games than 360 in next month even in next year.

I had mine since december of 06 and it still kicks like it did the first day I got it. I got a 360 a month ago and I do not enjoy the bulky wires it has for all of it's power/audio video hookups. I don't enjoy the loud fan it has and the loading sounds it makes during a game. Overall hardware wise PS3 is the better deal exept for 1 tp 1 voice chat in any game and custom soundtracks as part of hardware. If you are huge RPG fan then get another 360 for everything else the PS3 has pretty much what 360 has and it's own exclusives. Most multiplat games run equally to 360 at this point. The only other reason I would think of to get a 360 is to play with friends that have a 360.

also try to remember to put a shirt or blanket over the ps3 after playin. It's pretty much a dust collector out in the open. Using this method, the ps3 will last you a life time!!

lol i was once a 360 guy now im a cow. i love my ps3. bought it in july right before i had surgery and been playing it since. referbished 40gb with 1 year PRP (not that ill need it i all ways buy a warrenty.) Blu-ray, FREE ONLINE, and games are coming. Just not having to worry about if my 360 will break is worth the trade alone. Def go with ps3 dude, the 360 is just trash until they fix the fail rate.

If your used to the online capabilities of the 360 then your going to be disappointed with the psn. It's not even close in that department and nobody can argue with that, even if psn is free.

My xbox recently broke too :(. It's really too bad because the system has so much potential software wise.

If you get a PS3 the chances of it breaking are slim.

Nah, many PS3's don't overheat actually, the chances of it overheating are pretty slim, I leave mine on a lot because of Folding @ Home and it's never overheated on me before.

True the ps3 is a heck of a good system with some great upcoming games that I will certainly be getting but the 360's reliability is much better now with the new chips. I haven't been hearing anyone with problems with the new systems.

Do you know if newer 360's run any quieter? I have had mine since launch and it ran like a jet engine. I was hoping they would help that. Either way atleast the reliability problem has been dealt with and I had a pretty good run with my 360 (about 2 years).

I like my ps3 alot, no problems at all so far, I've had it for about six months.
