AvP 2 - Its the only game that really scared me, to the point where I did not want to progress through the game anymore. It actually made me not want to get attacked as if it were actually methat would get hurt, do you know what I mean? That game really immersed you, dam I played that game a lot, one of my favourites. I really want AvP 3 ;) and from the looks of all the other posts here so do other people, it would be a big hit I think.
All the others, including fear, doom 3, etc. haven't really scared me. At the most they've made me jump but I consider that more of a cheap thrill then a genuine scare. Which I really enjoy :) (the thrill). Granted I haven't played all the scary games out there and I'm not including console games but AvP 2 gets my vote :D :D. Well...that's my 2 cents.
1) Alone in the Dark...the scariest game I've ever played...based loosly on author H.P. Lovecraft's stories. Scariest game I've ever played, and this was before games had amazing graphics or surround sound to help in the effort!
2) Undying...which also had some Lovecraftian themes in it (characters, etc). Great atmosphere, and some intense fights/scenes.
With those two having Lovecraft in common...makes me want to play "Dark Corners of the Earth"...which is supposed to be VERY intense on your mind!
Doom 3 made me jump at its start, but I consider them 'cheap' scares -- monsters literally appearing out of nowhere isn't really fair (which is why I don't play the game over again), and FEAR was fairly nerve-wracking at first, before you got used to the rhythm the level designers adhered to (after a while you knew when the little girl was going to come around).
In no particular order:
Undying
Call Of Cthulhu
Penumbra:Overture Ep1
RTCW(Zombies Level)
Condemned
Thief 3(a specific level-don't rememer it now-Never finished the game after this level..)
OPFlashpoint(One bullet and you're gone-that's scary)
AVP(as a marine)
The Thing
Vampire Bloodlines(Hotel quest)
Aahh!Forgot one: Pathologic

Fatal frame isn't on PC, is for console only and TECMO never mentiones anything about that.
Alone in the dark 1 and 2
Alien versus Predator
Thief
well i cant remember more, if you played alone in the dark in the good old days, youll know that if you turned the light off and played in the niight, it was scary as hell, that game is really creepy. Well, also the mutants from Far cry were very scary.

My List:
For some reason I find FEAR to not be scary at all, infact it was boring for me. :)
I'm surprised there aren't more DOOM posts.
I guess most people aren't old enough, or didn't have PCs, or even SNES to play it when it was new.
Alone in a room, pitch black, with a blip on the radar getting closer and closer...
Yeah, anyone who's played AvP 1/2 knows what I'm talking about. That's the stuff nightmares are made of, I remember trying to play that game in the dark for extended periods of time, and had to take breaks in between every 30 minutes
Doom was pretty scary also, but that's just cause I was a kid at the time it came out. If I had played any truly scary games back then I'd probably have pissed my pants on an hourly basis.
[QUOTE="BounceDK"]AVP3 where are you?! :(wowbagger2004
The film was so poor that mainstream interest has probably dried up. Shame really.
WTF, The movie was actually really good, anyway I must say that F.E.A.R. is practically on everyones list, and it has i right to be, I love that game, i love all creepy games and books and movies, i just love to be creeped out i don't know why. And not many people must have played condemned that was pretty creepy until you get to the end and are familiar with it.
1. Penumbra: black plague by a HUGE margin, makes fear look like tea with mom and dad
2. Stalker:SOC
3.Cryostasis
4. FEAR
5. Condemned
Awww heck, if everyone's going to post on an old topic... why not?
1. FEAR
2. Bioshock (those splicers playing dead got me more than once)
3. Fallout 3 (tbh the ferral gouls and that scream made me jump at least twice)
4. Clive Barker's Jericho (more creepy, less scary)
5. Don't really have a 5th...
