For all those that really can't move onto the new menu, there might be good news on the horizon:

To be honest, I was using Start8 too but once Win 8.1 came out I uninstalled Start8 because the new Metro menu was just as easy for me, but I guess it's not for everyone.

Sounds good. I find the start menu in Win7 much more functional than the start/metro menu in Win8.

Yeah, it seems to come down to personal preference.

To me they both work the same way, just with a different layout.

I live on the desktop mode anyway so I barely see any menu.

What bugs me is that I can't use it to search for files. Or I can't jump to a sub section in the control panel. I have to first bring up the control panel, then go to where I want.

Maybe there's a way to change these things, but I shouldn't have to spend so much time tweaking it, to make it as functional as it's predecessor.

Windows 8.1 fixed all that.

My sis finally got W8 she finally upgraded from 2000 this year - I've decided to stick with Windows7 primarily for games - and my dad is still using XP because he only uses his ancient Dell for email.

my daughters both have Windows 8 but neither has English as a first language.

a rather complex family

I've noticed games run better and more stable on Windows 8 than Win7, but that could be depending on each game too.

I think it is from game to game, because I've read a lot of complaints going the other way. Right now I'm using 7 and I will be for a while to come. I have no reason to switch yet.

Will there be an option for both? What about people who do not want start menu because they have a touchscreen laptop or device?

I just went and tested those things:

- Search for files doesn't work that great inside the start menu, I agree on that. I normally use it from My Computer or a folder.

- Control Panel: wasn't is always like that? I still search for things inside the control panel and it finds them though.

Yes, it is believed there will be an option to choose which menu to use.

Win7 Start menu search will find stuff inside control panel which Win8 will not.

I just tested and I see what you mean.

What it actually does is search for the same thing, but called differently in a more understandable manner.

So for example:

Windows 7: you search for CLOCK, it comes up as clock

Windows 8: you search for CLOCK, it comes up with options like "Change Date and Time" or "Change Time Region" etc.

Thanks! That's good! I just bought an Asus Ultrabook and I'd prefer to put the touchscreen to use. =) There better be!

Perfectly happy with my Windows 7 copy right now, good sir. I have no intention of upgrading until every new game stops supporting Win 7. When that happens I will rage quit and eventually calm down enough to go out and buy a copy of Windows 8.

Hopefully there'll be a new, and not as shitty, version of Windows out by then.

Not as shitty? Well maybe, there is hope I mean.
