It's already live and rolling out, but as I posted in another thread, here are the details:
This is the rollout procedure for Win10:
- First, the Beta Testers
- Second, the Insider members
- Third, waves of Insider members that signed up later down the track
- Finally, the rest of the world in waves
You might get it next week, or next month. I don't know why anyone would be in a hurry though?
I enrolled in the tech preview like a month ago and it unlocked (was preloaded) at midnight eastern time for me.
Managed to force windows update to download windows 10 on my windows 8.1 laptop. The download kept on failing every single time windows update was trying to download it. Don't know if I can install it yet?
How did you manage that?
I noticed that my windows update kept on failing to download something. I figured out that it was failing to download windows 10 home edition for some odd reason.
I then decdied to use this method to force windows 10 to download through windows update on my windows 8.1 laptop.

You also have to delete some folder called in your C drive called windows software distribution under the windows folder if I recall in order to download windows 10 from windows update if the method above does not work for you.

Holy shit it worked, thank you lol!

why am i seeing this mentality so much? MS has access to one of the largest clouds in the world. Win10 is going to be unlocking for hundreds of thousands of people per day, simply because their servers can handle it. all of the early adopters are going to get their invite in the next 1-2 weeks minimum, if not the next few days.... they will hit all of the beta testers and inside members today and tomorrow most likely, opening up to hundreds of thousands of other users by the end of the week.
What mentality?
No one is saying they don't have good servers. The reason they are rolling it out in waves is because they want to stagger the release in case problems arise. Microsoft has never done a release this big over the internet so I think it's good they are being cautious.

But I've heard sometimes it makes things worse. Use at your own risk.
SO when do you get the Win 10 key? is it via email?
There's no traditional key anymore, it binds your mobo's serial onto MS servers, so if you ever got a virus or someone *cough cough* lost their key, you just download the W10 ISO (which is available as of awhile ago) and install.

That's what I asked in another topic.
So you have to use the upgrade option first.
But then you can download the ISO and clean install without a key?

Yes, I just read that topic, sorry.
Upgrade first, let it bind your motherboard, then if you want, clean install completely.

Cool.
But can I use that image I created with another PC, say my laptop? Of course after upgrading the laptop first.
Ok, I have Windows 10 now and so far it has been stable. The fan tends to be noisy though almost all of the time. I wonder how I can get it to be more silent...
downloaded iso and created dvd to upgrade, didn't save any files or windows settings from previous os. once installed turned off lots of unnecessary options and uninstalled all of microsofts bloatware apps that could be uninstalled.
so far so good, its running great, reinstallation of programs encountered no issues. have not reinstalled any games to test yet though.
There is a way to force a Windows 10 update and force the install. I got it to work as I'm typing this to you using Windows 10 and I was a late register so I should still be waiting. My steps might not work on your system but there are ways to force it just look. But don't bother I'm a bit underwhelmed by it so far.
quick question about streaming from xbox to pc. So my Tv that my xbox is hooked up to only goes up to 720p but my pc monitor goes up to 1080p. So if I am streaming an xbox game that does 1080p will it stream to 1080p on my pc monitor or will it be locked at 720p from my tv??
If you don't want to wait, there are 2 ways to do it.
1. Just do the update.
You can go to the Win10 download page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 .it will download the media creation tool and do the update, no waiting.
2. If you want to do a clean install- Install and activate Windows 7 then download from the link above. Easy peasy.
I have tested both ways and they work. Enjoy.
@GTR12: There are still traditional keys. They are sending the keys via email. They are also using your activated Win7 keys as verification for a Win10 license.
No there aren't any traditional keys, its a one-time use key, it then binds your motherboard's serial onto their server, hence why you don't need a key to re-install/clean install again and again. You could re-install W10 every single day without a key (after first activation) if you wanted.
Every single day if you wanted.
There's already over 14 million users that have downloaded Windows 10 in just 24 hrs! The Hype is REAL!

And I bet 98% of those don't even use/need any of the new features, lol.....

I bet most people haven't noticed the difference or that its a new OS...

Lol of course they have. It's not an automated install anyway, you have to clearly accept it.

MS has now confirmed that 67 Million users have converted to Windows 10 so far since this Morning (CST), wow! I guess making it Free does make a huge difference.

Now here's hoping for PC game developers to take notice to use DirectX 12

Well Deus Ex Manking Divided (early 2016) will support DX12 features.
finally achieved win 10 clean install. just trying to find a way now to one click launch in private browsing using edge, and ways to turn off even more options that my system doesn't require. machine is strictly for pc gaming.
I couldn't wait for my reserved copy to activate so i just downloaded win 10 from the web. At the first startup half of the stuff was not working correctly but it was downloading all updates in the background which i didn't notice, so after a restart everything seem to work fine. There was only one program i had to uninstall before installing win10 (ultramon). Edge is not an option right now for me since theres no real support for plugins/addons at the moment. Chrome seems to have a problem with my soundcard suddenly (xonar asus dx) on win 10 (it works everywhere else just fine) but its mostly working when i changed it to 44.1khz. Haven't had any crashes yet of the pc or programs. I'll have to do some more gaming. Some UI Features seem better, some worse. Btw if you dont need onedrive and want it away from your system use this tool here.

I never buy OS. It cheaper for me to buy new computer every 5 years.
And besides it not like windows 10 is going to be that much different than windows 8. I can see if you go from windows 7 to windows 10.
i don't think anybody on gamespot actually bought windows 10 since it's a free upgrade from 7 or 8.
