This falls under software/hardware, but I`ll stick it in these forums...

1/ Which card(s) did you just buy? (link to where you got it from to compare prices).

2/ What FPS are you getting/Resolution/Gfx settings?

3/ Was it purely for BF3 or it was just merely time to upgrade anyway?

4/ Has anyone cancelled their pre-order because of the BETA (which EA said afterwards, this is what the engine looked like over a month ago, i.e. please don't cancel, this is like 2 months from the finished, better enginge - we promise!).

Anyone that hasn't played BETA yet, people are reporting lots of bugs, but also major game breakers like lack of Squad Management (but again EA are saying it will be in retail version).

I just ordered myself the following:

EVGA 012-P3-1573-KR Nvidia GTX570 HD SuperClocked 1280MB 320-Bit DDR5 Graphics Card (£265 from Amazon).

I got it because my GTS 250 is like 15% the power of what I've just ordered. So I got this because it was time to upgrade anyway. It's slightly less powerful than the GTX 580, but with a fairly big price difference. The GTX 590 (which I can easily afford), is just too expensive for that extra performance.

I'm happy with my GPU but sometimes I wonder how my CPU is keeping up in today's games like BF3. It's overclocked to the wall but I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm being paranoid. If I could gain like 10-15fps with a Sandy Bridge, that would entice me to go Intel.

This game doesn't require an earth-shattering PC the way Crysis did. That card is above and beyond what you'll need. I'm running a GTX 480 that I bought a year ago, and aside from the spurting and sputtering of a poorly optimized beta build, I'm getting 60 fps. And that's on top of having a borderline-outdated mobo and dual-core CPU. You can relax.

I want to SLI 560's for it. I have one now and it works greatbut I would love to play on higher settings at higher frames. But I would need a new motherboard that is SLI compatible and maybe a new PSU too (not sure 650W would be enough for the two) and after all that I would probably want to change my CPU. Its only a phenom 955. Maybe early next year I will do some upgrades to and SLI AM3+ mobo and get 2 560's and a bulldozer CPU

I have a GTX 470. Last night for fun I cranked up the settings to ultra to see what FPSs I got. While I know a lot of the settings are locked at medium, I did notice larger draw distances and more detail in the distance.

That said I was still getting only about 30-40 fps. I want 60 fps, I think it's time to upgrade. :P

I just updated my Crossfire 5830's to Crossfire 6950's. I needed the 2gb Vram for Eyefinity and just more horsepower in general. I was getting high settings in BF3 beta at 5256x1050 but only averaging 35-50fps. I get these badboys today....I'm excited.

By the way. will a i5 2500k UN-OVERCLOCKED (for now, im sure my antec kuhler can get me 4ghz at least) bottleneck any games currently?

This makes me feel sorry for that card. A extensive budge should be involved with a 590 build but i'm sure you will love it the same as i would have. :) LOL

Do realize you are also playing the game on medium settings (the "maxxed" settings are not the actual max as has been confirmed a lot and I believe its medium-high settings). I bought a gtx580 but I can tell my intel Q8400 (2.66 ghz) is really holding it back so getting an intel I7 next month (not just for bf3 though for all game sin general :P).

I think I'll wait for the game to be out a few months and see how the drivers and patches improve the performance. EA/Nvidia did a great job of making people think they need to upgrade before the game has even officially come out.

Well it's your call on what you want to pay for that little extra horse power. If you look on the graph, does it justify the big price gap?

The 570 cost me £265, but for the 580 it would cost about £400.

Well even though fraps was reporting 40 FPS with my older GTS 250 at medium settings... it was still juddering away and flickering textures/green flashes. I have now got my GTX 570 1.28GB and I slapped it all in Auto settings (very high details and high resolution), it felt SO much smoother. However, I'm now awaiting a new PSU because the setup I have (see my sig) is getting JUST enough power using 650W PSU, but when I start to play a game, after a few seconds and it will switch off my PC. Obviously this is when the graphics card is calling for more power and it tips it just over it's threshold. I reduced the screen resolution and stuck to medium settings, so the graphics card didn't need as much power, it lasted longer, but after a few minutes it decided to switch off again. It's not an overheat issue, I've got it water cooled and using RealTemp, showing 40 degree idle and 70 - 80 at 100% load. Testing it with a new graphics card, I'm gonna stick BF3 back on pre-order. I cancelled it because my Brother didn't want his copy anymore, plus we weren't that happy with the way it played, felt, bugged & lack of squad management etc. Which in turn seems all to be fixed, as this BETA is like over a month old version of the engine. By the way, I played Metro like crazy & it's fun, but playing Caspian for the 1st time.... definitely looking sexy.

I got a 6770 to replace my 4670 which fried somehow until I got the money to go all out on a new build. Now that I've played Caspian border and seen my FPS drop from a stable 45 FPS to an unstable 30, I probably should've just gone all out an upgraded my Phenom X3 too lol.

I normally get 30-50 and sometimes up to 60-70FPS on Caspian Border with it sadly getting below 30 at times.

This game eats up a lot of VRAM, 965 MB, gee.

Got a KFA2 GeForce 560Ti OC (KFA2 are the European arm of Galaxy). It was part of a major upgrade I was planning anyway, which I got a month ago (specs in sig).

I can't link it as they don't sell that particular card anymore. But it was £163 from Ebuyer. Haven't measured performance, but it was running smooth as butter at 1080p on whatever the maximum settings in the beta are (medium?). I expect I'll have no problem running the full game on High.

And I haven't pre-ordered the game. The beta was so buggy I couldn't enjoy it, but it's a beta so I'm relatively confident the full game will be fine. I'll probably wait a little while before getting it, tons of games to play in the next couple of months anyway...

I did... well I got the PC for Rage, Skyrim, BF3, Witcher 2 and pretty much any futre game.

I spent around £1200 on the PC, here are the specs:

  • i5 2500k
  • P67 Sabertooth
  • 2x XFX HD 6950 2GB
  • 2x 4GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX
  • OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD
  • 1TB Western Digital Black 6GB/s
  • BenQ 24" LED 120Hz monitor

This is on Caspian Border: I'm getting around 55-60 frames average with everything that the Beta can offer on the highest never drops to the mid 30's sometimes but hey its a beta. When I use just one GPU I get around 40-45FPS average... I think I would have been a lot better off with just a single GTX 580 3GB.

This is all good till I get disconnected of course... :P. Honestly can't wait for the full game, It can only get better so Im keeping my pre-order.

Played the beta and my 580 isnt breaking a sweat playing it on the highest possible that the beta has, never noticed any slowdown either. There are a few lighting a flickering issues though.

Your GTX470 should be more than enough to hold you over until GTX600 series. It'd be a waste to go from a GTX470, to 2 560's, only to get a 600 series card after that. I'd personally just skip the 500 series.

I have:

GTX570

I5 750 OC'd to 4.0 GHz

But I am CONSIDERING selling my mobo since it doesnt support SLI/Crossfire and my CPU, then buying a sandy bridge (or maybe bulldozer), new mobo, and another GTX570. I really didnt want to spend over 400 on parts when the only game that really needs it right now is BF3 :P. But I am so tempted, since I know I will be playing a lot of BF3 and I want to max it with 60 FPS.

Getting another 6870 is cheaper and 2 would beat the 580, but for single upgrades either a 570/6970 or better would work.

I have the same cpu with a 570 and I feel the same way. It bottlenecks in crysis and yields only a few fps higher than my 4890 did. I think id get 10-20 or so more fps with a i7 sandy bridge at the same clock speed...And I've done pretty extensive research on this so I don't think you're being paranoid.

I was considering getting an sandybridge but it seems that bf3 loves my 1055t now overclocked to 3.8ghz too much.

I checked out other users results using one gtx 580 with the 2600k in this game and my performance was on par.

After helping a friend build his pc with a i5 2500k, it seems that I am fine for now. I did get a Corsair h100 this week though which performs brilliantly I must admit.

1. I bought a Nvidia GTX 560 ti

2. Getting right at 60fps, 1680x1050, and all settings on High/Ultra

3. I recently got a new PC so I bought the card for all games, not BF3 in particular. Skyrim & Arkham City helped me decide to purchase even more than BF3 did.

4. Cancel my paid off game? Hell no, BF3 is going to be great once it's out and the kinks really get ironed out. The beta was a small disaster but they are making up for it by letting us all play on Caspian now. It's going to be a very fun game, little doubt about that...

I am waiting for the full release to judge my performance on my current card before making a decision.
