Blizzard. No contest. The other developers mentioned in the poll cannot compete in their wildest dreams.

The only contender would be Westwood Studios, if only...

If only...

Relic. They evolve their games unlike most rts developers out there who stick to outdated and stagnant mechanics. In other words the same old crap with shinier graphics.

I used to love Westwood Studios (Old Command&Conquer series) and Cavedog Entertainment (Total Annihilation) but now id have to go with Relic for Company of Heroes.

Relic have arguably done more to push the genre forwards than other devs. From Homeworld to Dawn of War.

Liquid Entertainment. For me wins by a mile simply because of Battle Realms. That game is brilliant.

Blizz wins by default :P so I voted for Relic, the 2nd best imo. CA went down the drain after M2:TW and GPG makes "interesting" RTSs that you can hardly consider quality games, but they are interesting because they try to be different.

Ironclad Games. No RTS can compete with Sins of a solar empire.

Prexxus

That's like saying "no RTS can compete with a TBS", they are all strategy but not exactly the same genre.

Westwood and Ensemble. I dislike all those flashy 3d RTS games. I prefer them isometric like AoM2 and RA2

Blizzard definitely. GPG is a close second, it's just a shame that Supreme Commander 2 was so mediocre :( Creative Assembly third. and Relic in dead last. DoW was okay, but 2 was just waaaaaaaaay too simplified for my liking. CoH was pretty good though. And I never did play the Homeworld games.

Don't get me wrong, Blizzard and Creative Assembly make some of my favorite RTSs, but Relic did CoH, DoW, and the best game ever made, Homeworld. They know how to make a game.

Now? Relic without a doubt. They make some amazing games.

Ooooo....I might have to go with Creative Assembly over Blizzard. I think Blizzard actually makes better games in terms of mechanics, but I can't get enough of the Total War series. I've spent hours playing those games since I was about 12 with Shogun.

How has nobody else said Ensemble? Does nobody think Age of Empires is the best RTS? I think Age of Mythology is better, but still.

Probably because they are shut down for good now. I did love AOE and AOM when i was much younger though.

Tough choice.

I guess it's between Ensemble and Creative Assembly.

Oh and I do like Relic too.

Consistently, Blizzard... COH is my favourite RTS, but as far as devs go, I'm not a huge fan of Relic. They need to show more support for COH if they want to be my favourite... and COH online does not count >_>. I want a good expansion.

Starcraft and Homeworld are two of my most beloved RTS's. I can't choose between them.

Sins of a Solar Empire is not a TBS. It a RTS with Galactic Civilizations/Master of Orion style 4X elements. Therefore, it counts as a RTS.

Half of what you do is done automatically by the computer because of the size, and base building is extremely limited, for me that makes it less of an RTS and more of an RTT, but since it's neither their genre name works best 4x space RTS, it doesn't even have any competition there :P of course it's the best, only one that would qualify is Homeworld 2 but that one is a real RTS.

ME is great, I loved GC 1, 2 and WiC, but they need to make more RTSs if they want to be praised like Blizz and Relic :).

1. ensemble studio for age of empire 2 and 3

2. Relic for warhammer 40,000 and homeworld

3. creative assembly

4. don't care about anyone else
