Which Of These Parts Needs To Go?

In correspondence with my recent thread about upgrading my friends old computer, I think it's about time I get a little upgrade for mine. Mine's a lot newer and a lot less needing of an upgrade, but I got some spare cash, so might as well.

System Model: MS-7599
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 8GB DDR3 (4GB X2, two spare slots left)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB

I'm only going to upgrade one part, so which one needs upgrading most do you think?

If your CPU socket supports it, you could go with a Phenom II x6 1100T - though I don't know how many programs would actually use those extra 2 cores. At the same time, you could overclock your x4 some, and upgrade to 16GB of RAM, as your video card should still be decent. The thing is, if everything runs smooth enough and with enough details for you, you could just wait to put enough money together and build a whole new one in several months to a year.Stinger78

Yeah everything does run pretty stellar, I just thought it'd be nice to go ultra on more games. Or atleast crank up the AA some.

Definitely graphics card. I was running a 965BE with a GTX 295, and the CPU never broke a sweat. Get a 7870 or better or a 660 or better. You will get quite a boost that way, and you can always bump the rest later.

What about getting another 6950. My PSU should be able to power up two quite happily.

Keep your CPU, an 6 core CPU is not worth it. There's not much software that uses 6 cores, well maybe If you do 3D rendering and stuff. But games, 4 cores are more than enough. But to be completly honest, I would just save the money. But if your deadset on spending, a 2nd card could work. That said, considering you have an X4 955 which should be a black edition, you could try and overclock it a little if you feel comfortable doing that.Wever1988

Yeah, but it would be quite noticeable. He should overclock the CPU, too. I normally don't recommend that, but it's made for it. A second card in Crossfire is better than my suggestion if his mobo can do it.
