Probably Body Harvest for the N64 because that's what brought me into the genre and it's just such an epic game

System Shock 2 and Ultimate Doom for me.

Also, if you mean Gears of War when you say GoW, well, it's not a first person shooter.

half-life 2. before that it was doom 2, but i had to reluctantly give the spot to half-life 2 a while back and admit that it deserves it.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001).

Not for the single player campaign, which was run-of-the-mill, but for the outstanding multiplayer. Played that game online to death (almost two years).

Quake rocked my socks off when it came out. True 3D characters, mods, online player, and a wicked design Quake really revolutionized FPS more than any other game since.

Half-Life (1). An absolutely amazing game. (I love all the games in the HL series, but the first one remains my favourite)

I'd have to say Halo 2's been my best FPS experience overall, great music, great campaign, very polished gameplay, great multiplayer aswell. Chasing that four legged walker through the ruined city has to be one of my favorite experiences in any game ,ever.

Yep the same here :) it was the first good fps and it still is (Q3) and if you add the graphics and pixel shader pack made in 2005 it is even better than UT 2004 :) i still play it some times especially the modes, too bad Q4 doesn't live up to it's expactations but ETQW still continues the tradition .

GoW? If you mean Gears of War, that game isn't a FIRST person shooter, it's a third person shooter, which I think are by far better than FPSs

Best FPS I've played: Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay

Team Fortress 2 is awesome but I would have to say that CSS takes it for me. I've met so many awesome people through, had so many great nights that I don't see anything surpassing it in the near future.

My favorite FPS games: Starsiege: Tribes, Timesplitters Series, Call of Duty 4, Unreal series (original, 2004, 3), America's Army, Medal of Honor: Frontline, Perfect Dark, and GoldenEye. There may be another I'm missing, but I can't think of them all...I can't chose a #1 either. Also, I've played Halflife 2, TF2, Crysis, and a few others mentioned above, and I'd take any of my choices over them...none of those games are any fun to me.

Tough question...

Most involving HL2.

Most realistic CoD 4.

Best online RSV.

The best: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (soon to most likely be Clear Sky)
Runners up: The Ultimate Doom, Doom II: Hell on Earth and Doom II: Final Doom.

I'd say Medal of Honor: Allied Assult was the game that really got me into FPS's, but I've probably played counterstrike more then any other game. I've never been a big fan of FPS on consoles; there is no better way to play an FPS then with a mouse and keyboard.

Counter-Strike 1.6, it's the most balanced FPS out there. It takes a lot of time to get good.

Single player FPS would be Bioshock. It's sense of atmosphere was amazing, never experienced it in a game before. Also FYI I've never played SS2

Timesplitters, Gears of War (not FPS, but a shooter anyhow), Goldeneye, off the top of my head.

Crysis would probably be up there too, if my computer stood a chance of running it.

Crysis, amazing single player and horrible multiplayer. and still i cant get past the graphics, and all the mods coming out.

COD 4, for obvious reasons. great graphics, best multiplayer currently out, fun single player.

MOH: allied assault: spearhead. I spent so many hours on that game online.

Timesplitters 1,2, and especially 3.

those are probably my top 4

Cheers

Doom (before internet play you had to host a game using 3rd party software on your pc)

Castle Wolfenstein

Hexen...is there still anything more humiliating than turning your opponent into a chicken?

Farcry (twas jaw dropping graphics coupled with performance optimized code)

Bioshock - I'm on the opinion that it's a freeking work of art...

COD4

This is perhaps one of the most difficult choices I've had to make, as the majority of games I have played have been FPSes, and I seriously think I have played nearly every worthwhile FPS to date. Hmm... I would have to say Half Life 1, for it's great atmosphere, storyline, and unique presentation (I absolutely LOVED The intro tram :P). Second I would have to say Painkiller (Expansion Pack not included), just for the sheer scale of fun I had playing it. Dues Ex and System Shock 2 would also rank up there... but those are more of an FPS/RPG Hybrid :/ I would also have to give F.E.A.R. a honorable mention, as it was one of the most atmospheric and intense shooters I have played, well... EVER. I absolutely loved it, and it was one of the most immersing experiences I ever had in an FPS.

I give the credit to HL2, with FEAR and COD1 a close second. I gave 10s to all those and also Painkiller and HL1

For mulitiplayer the most fun I had was Enemy Territory Quake Wars.

Let go backward in time here, Because it is hard to judge a game from 10 years ago against current entires.

Crysis (perhaps hadf ruined all FPS for me for a while. Should NOT have played COD4 AFTER Crysis. I felt as though it was silly that I couldnt' jump over that 3 foot fence and go my own way, it was much too linear)

Half Life 2 CS: Source

Far Cry...again you can go anywhere!

Undying (I like gross scary games)

Deus Ex ( yes you can shoot the computer and the glass and the .......)

Duke Nuke'em ( I still laugh at the "i'm all out of bubble gum" line.

Thief : the dark Project (no run and gun here and those zombies and ghost scared the crap out of me!)

Theres other but those have been the high points.

OH WAIT! Jedi Knight!!!!

Oh Wait wait again.....Medal of Honor! (take you pick)
