Okay, so Crysis 2 is a major let down for those of us who played Crysis.

Its Buggy (my melee stops working whenver I die and my shotgun can only carry 10 slugs), its lost the classic Crytek sandbox approach to levels, and its yet to make me shout 'come get some mother*******!' at the screen in the same way the final 10 minutes of warhead did.

But there has to be something good to be said about the single player...right?

I really want to like this game but things keep getting in my way. so those of you who've actually played it (on PC) help me out here...

Good things? sure I can do that.

-The story is better

-It has a better pacing

-The moment the aliens start appearing does not automatically make the game suck.

-The music is better

There are alot of things that Crysis 2 does way worse then Crysis 1, and the above is only my own oppinions ofcourse, but Crysis 1 were an odd game, I loved the 1st half, hated the second half, I finished it once, and replayied it 4 times since then, but always stopped when I came to the alien part.

In crysis 2 I did not mind those lil squid thingies all that much.

Crytek finally made linear sections and monsters fun.

Their artists and vision are amazing, it's like being in the middle of a Roland Emmerich movie. You've seen destruction in games, but not this spectacular.

Fun gameplay Fun environment aliens aren't as annoying as in the first one Performance is smooth and nice. A lot of details in the environment Story is certainly better than the first Crysis gameplay feels more fluid. No more stopping to change to strength or speed mode.

I like the thought of one day buying it cheaply and enjoying it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...I also like the suggestion of Crytek developing their own line of nano-tech clothing for all demographics. Some day we'll all be wearing nano-tech hoodies and shorts!

The soundtrack is great.

The pacing of the game is much better than the first, although at the price of exploration.

-great weapons and attachments. i love that rather than putting 10 types of assault rifles, they just gave you one uber customizable rifle, and then they gave you other things like 3 different types of pistols, an lmg, weird lightning smg thing, smg, sniper, shotgun, rl, gl, and cool attachments like grenade launchers, gauss attachments, and shotguns. they weapons work really well, but i think the lmg might be a little op.

-really detailed game and runs great compared to crysis 1 (of course at the loss of some fidelity, but i dont mind because i could never really run crysis 1 well anyway)

-good story and interesting characters

-despite the linear levels, they really do give you many options when approaching most areas, you can sneak around enemies, go all guns blazing, sniper, or do a hybrid.

-cool enemies, despite their stupidity sometimes

Pyromk1

Not for me.

I sort of enjoyed Crysis, liked Crysis Warhead much more, and really like Crysis 2.

I'd rank them as follows:

Crysis 7/10

Crysis Warhead 8/10

Crysis 2 8.5/10

Clearly, none of these games advance the first person shooter as a genre in any shape or form.

Better story.

Better optimized.

Better music.

Better pacing.

Better suit.

Better setting.

Silent Protagonist.

Overall a great game that looks better than DX10 Crysis and runs alot better. If there will be a DX11 patch for Crysis 2 Ill play the game again, but as it stands its still a great game and the whiners who whine without even playing it are missing out. I have not seen any slowdown. I have not encounterd any bugs. The AI while not perfect is better than Crysis. The scripted set pieces are amazing. The sniping is very satisfying. I wish there was a zero gravity level, but I can live without it. The multiplayer is a letdown though. The suit is great in mp but the maps are small and I miss the vechicles. I also wish there were more creative weapons. They could have atleast left more Swarmers around the levels. I miss the old timey shooters where one of the reasons to proceed is to find out what funky weapons the devs came up with. Oh and Hargreave is awesome.

- The sound is great, haven't heard good sound quality in a game since Medal of Honor and Bad Company 2.

- The engine is well optimized despite the fact that it was optimized for consoles and still looks quite impressive. Anyone who thinks this game "looks like a 2003 game" should be shot.

- Certain easter eggs in the game were worth exploring. (Dancing soldiers in a lift, aw yea!)

- You still have quite an open map to explore even if it's much smaller than that in Crysis.

I'm finding the gameplay to be more fun and fluid than the first one, although there are some glaring ommisions to the nanosuit in the second game, I like the streamlining of the powers. Also just in terms of direction I like how the second game pushes you along. The game feels more focused than the original and I feel like the tunneling works better than in Warhead.

Again this is all my opinion, they are two very different games (Crysis and 2 that is, I could write a lot more if I compared it to Warhead as well) I was pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying the second Crysis. Yeah the levels are smaller, but every set piece is phenomonally beautiful and the game opens up more and more as I play.

Edit: and it runs so smoothly! In terms of just what my computer can handle and what I see on screen, Crysis 2 looks and runs better than the first in many aspects IMO

The default ones. I would rather deal with blur than noticeable low res textures and jagies. Do you have some suggestions on what looks better than the default setting?

Pyromk1

I took the stealthy approach most of the time on the first two Crysis games. So, Crysis 2 suits me just fine. No gameplay bugs so far except for the occasional dead (helicopter) suspended in the air right on the harbor surface instead of in it. I don't know if it's a bug. But on the way to the hive tunnel, I highlighted a bunch of aliens and then dropped a few of them with long range fire. I then had to go back to the starting point to reload on ammo. When I got back, the remaining aliens were gone. I had a hard time earlier with the first batch of aliens. So, I figured I'd bypass these guys if I can. If they were gone, so much the better.

Alcatraz doesn't die too often. When he does, it's usually after a long session. I'd quit and take a break. So, I haven't seen the bugs you're seeing.

One good thing I like about Crysis 2 is even the relatively modest PC in my sig can run Extreme, Post-Human at a playable rate. So, yeah. I'm enjoying Crysis 2. I was going to upgrade from my 5770. I think I can hold off a little longer.

Crysis 2 is one of the best shooters in the history of gaming. While it has deviated slightly from the original's formula, it must be judged as its own game, not a continuation of the original.

The story is vastly improved

The game looks beautiful, despite the constant crying from a lot of us PC gamer over Dx11 and stuff. Get over it, folks, the game looks great.

While the open level design is gone, the sandbox still exists for us to play in. As said in an earlier thread, Crytek called it a "choreographed sandbox" and that is exactly what it is. They give you a set piece, and a variety of tactical options, and you can conduct your mission in any fashion. I felt as free in Crysis 2 as I did in Crysis 1 in terms of choice, the only difference being the playground was smaller.

Suit controls have been perfected. Say what you want, but the original was clunky. The new controls are much easier and faster to use, and add speed and finesse to the gameplay. Suit upgrages are also a nice touch.

I like how in Crysis 2, the main character is the nanosuit, not the man inside. On the loading screen, they even go so far as to simply call you a "nanosuit driver" lol. It was a cool spin added to the plot; instead of an elite soldier using a suit, youre a suit being used to defeat an incredible enemy.

speaking of enemies, I love the bad guys. CELL foes were pretty awesome to battle, and the Ceph are even better. Great design.

Level design is fantastic; I've never been to New York City, but it seems like they did a really awesome job recreating a devastated city.

Weapons were awesome

Overall I am completely happy, the only downisde is the broken online component (but I bought this game for the singleplayer). I still prefer Crysis 1 and Warhead, but Crysis 2 is awesome and it will be staying on my hard drive for quite a long time

Well, according to GS the first "tech demo" is >>>> Crysis 2 and I agree with them. Of course Crysis 2 has many improvements over the first but it doesn't live up to the awesomeness of its predecessor imo.

I actually enjoyed it start to finish which I can't say for the first game. Mainly because of the annoying aliens.

Also I'm not usually a fan of 'streamlining' but I like how they handled the suit, I felt the combat was a lot more fluid and I was a lot more flexible in situations than in Crysis1/WH just because I didn't have to fumble around with the abilities menu thing or pick speed/strength over armor/cloak.

My main issue with the game was how disjointed it felt from the first 2 games. The aliens from the first game and the Ceph almost seem like 2 completely different races. In the first game they had bluish tones and looked extremely alien... in Crysis 2 they have a more red tone and are way more conventional looking. Not to mention the whole freezing thing is oddly absent.
