R7 265 - AMD strikes against Nvidias' 750Ti

According to reviewers on many sites the the R7 265 is the sweetspot between 270 and the 260X.

It also costs 150$, same price as the 750Ti, but performs about 17-20% better.

Now the 750Ti is king in terms of saving some power, the 265 does not takes huge PSU capacity so even the 430Watts or 500Watts would be more than enough for this GPU.

You've already seen 760K CPU + 750Ti, now my new replacement for the 750Ti will be the R7 265 hands down.

And yes it is a renew of the legendary 7850

Good card but I am beyond sick of the sub $200 market (its been a joke for the last 4-5 months).

The average sub $200 card is literally $20 more than what the GPU equivalent was a year ago (its like the progression/pricing has gone backwards).

Well, my 8870M consumes about 32 watts that rivals desktop 7770 in performance. If you double my 8870M's 10 CU GCN into 20 CU GCN, you get about 64 watts.

8870M scaled by 2X = 1.984 TFLOPS. R7-265 = 1.89 TFLOPS.

750 Ti's performance per watt is reachable by AMD IF they move their mobile GPUs into the desktop space.

I was going for 7850 a year ago and it cost about the same as its rebrand the 265X. I ended up with GTX 660 which also costs about the same as it did a year ago. That just sucks.

The 660 is excellent GPU and it's above the 265 or the 750ti, it's in the 270X level

@PredatorRules: Yea it was a good deal and it serves me nicely. I'm just saying normally you'd expect the prices to go down, but this time it only happened to stronger models. Look at 660 Ti, it basically dissapeared from the radar being priced the same or higher than 760, and in SLI it's a very solid performer, better than 770.

It has been a joke. My GTX 660 SC was $170 when I bought it and now its $200+ a year later. The 7870ghz was around the same price and now they sell for $200+.

7850 has at the very best broke even in price and the 750ti is slower than what was the same priced 650ti boost........ (sub $200 has been a let down lately).

AMD claims "FULL DirectX 12 compatibility" for their GCNs.

NVIDIA has yet to claim "FULL DirectX 12 compatibility" for their DX11_0 GPUs.

I'm guessing your planning on crossfiring them ? (I hope you don't mean to replace your 7850 since the 265 is just a 7850 overclocked to 900+ and slightly higher memory speeds)

I have the 1gb OC version.. and I kinda want to crossfire them (if I can and it is only $150)... Mastershake guessed correctly.

and yet NVIDIA's drivers will make the 750ti outperform the R7 in just about ever game... while AMD continues to languish in obscurity with subpar drivers.

I love my 7850. :) I won't be upgrading until this summer.

Sadly, you can't crossfire those two, the R7 265 comes with a 2Gb while your GPU only have 1Gb, unless they'll release a 1Gb version or you get a 2Gb version you can't cross those two.

Yes you can (in most cases the only drawback is that the 265 will only have 1GB useable instead of one). You can crossfire two cards with different Vram sizes usually as long as the chipset is the same.

My 7870XT 2GB can be crossfired with a 3GB 7950 or 3GB 7970 (not only is the Vram size different but those two cards have more cores yet crossfire still works).

You have to understand a couple things when you crossfire two different gpu's of the same series ie 7870 and 7970 for example that 7970 is knocked down to 7870 speeds. The two cards would essentially render alternating frames, so the setup is as fast as the slowest card. Also we have no idea if AMD introduced a limitation with 265 not being able to be crossfired with its 7850 equal. While we know the other rebranded 200's work with the 7000's. Now also should point out that Crossfire is an awful idea since the frame timing has not been fixed even with the 200 series still having unstable frame rates and micro stuttering.

Also to point out that crossing two different gpu's one being faster then the other will introduce even more issues with frame timings.

I am already aware of all of this (my post was to point out that it was possible/point out that people have done it, not to say it was the best option or recommended).

I can't remember where I read it but I thought Fermi and above will be full DirectX 12 compatible

I don't understand what your trying to tell me ? (you can crossfire two cards that have different Vram). I have a friend on steam who did it with a 7850 (1GB and 2GB) and my 7870XT can technically be crossfired with a 3GB 7950/7970 based on both seeing users with the same setup and according to my video card manual

I'm trying to tell you that you do not SLI/Crossfire different capacity VRAM GPUs.

The problem is you keep saying SLI (stop mentioning/saying SLI). Crossfire and SLI aren't mutually exclusive (just because you can't do it on SLI doesn't mean you can't do it on crossfire).

Stop mixing the two up (I have a friend on stream who has different 7850s and the instruction manual currently in my hand says that the 7870XT can be matched with 7950/7970). You use to be able to SLI (NVidia) two different cards using Coolbit but its getting nearly impossible to do it now. That is not the case with AMD/crossfire.

Stop talking about Nvidia and applying its rules to crossfire (there is no SLI conversation in this thread).
